Introductions here please!

HI 👋 I started riding as a child and was definitely the typical "pony mad girl" and spent every possible moment around horses, sadly I never had my own but worked at a riding school when I left school in the 1980's, fast forward a (lot of) years and life got in the way, I hadn't ridden for 20 odd years, but returned to riding about 10 years ago - and the old flame was relit! But then Covid happened and I was diagnosed with Long Covid and am unable to do the things I love, so now get my horsey fix by reading pony books old and new 📚🐴

Welcome! I hope you get back to riding soon

Hi!

I’ve loved horses for as long as I can remember, but mainly had to content myself with books, model horses and my imagination until now. Although I first went riding when I was 9, it was only ever once or twice a year on holiday, and only a couple of actual lessons, with the rest being hacks/treks, generally on a different horse or pony and at a different riding centre each time. At the moment, I’m lucky enough to have some private lessons, go on some hacks and to help a friend with horses.

Here’s to continuing to learn and finally working out the mysteries of things like diagonals, canter leads and half-halts (not things I was ever taught about/corrected on before now)! Pleased to meet you all. 🙂

Hello

This forum comes up in my googling very often so I think it may be my goto.

I'm new to riding at 59 years old. I just enjoyed a couple of trail rides 6 months ago and thought I really should do this properly.

Welcome, and good for you! 😃There are lots of lovely, horse-loving people on here. It’s a brilliant bank of knowledge, and everyone helps each other!

Hello there. I am a young man of 30 from Denmark. I have always been restlessly fond of animals. I have different animals on my farm. I am considering starting to ride 2 of my horses. Do you have any good advice?

It is fine to start at 59. I started at 61 and am still riding 20 years later. Find a good teacher with a suitable horse and dont be afraid to shop around. Learning to ride should be a pleasure.

I've been lurking for a few months now and I've learned a lot so far, but it's finally time to say hello to everyone. I'm retired and only began my lessons just a couple of months ago. At 69 I must be the oldest new student here! At this point in my life I know I'll never become more than an intermediate rider, but my goal is to be able to confidently walk, trot and canter in an arena and be able to do some trail riding, or hacking as it's called here :) (I'm in California).
