2016.... Tracking Challenge( hours -ridden/inhand) add your photos as well

Ridden 2 hours 40 mins
Hacking 4 miles

I am counting ridden as anything we do at the yard and hacking separate is that how it works please? Or should I be just adding up the total amount as in hacking ridden time not miles?

That is exactly what it is horseandgoatmom, that's just what us Brits call it when some moron thinks it's ok to go out into the countryside and chuck their rubbish because they are too lazy to take it too the tip! Or their wheelie bin is full.

An hours lesson for me last night, mostly flatwork and a bit of jumping. I had my first go at flying changes (albeit with a bit of help from a jump pole on the floor). Such a weird feeling! I rode Trooper who is a 17.3hh TBx - he'd been in all day so was a bit fresh!

Totals Hacking
1.5 hours
4.6 miles

Schooling
1 hours

I copied the grid that Jessey came up with
I am using that.
Its all hours now but broken down into hackinig or shcooling ridden
and hacking or schooling inhand

People dump trash like that in this country too
There is a special place in hell for them

2 hours hacking.
Our first six miles of the year, I love the route. Her confidence wobbles in two places, always has done, company or not, led or not.

I wasn't sure on these rooks / crows is it a superstition. Is it an omen to ride under these things?
Well if they all took flight in unison it might not end great for me. :D

Lucky you to have got out for such a long hack...I have only managed to get out once this week...weather and other commitments:mad:

Just out of interest did you do any trotting and cantering on your hack? i would do about 5 or 6 miles and it usually takes between 1 hr 45 mins or just over 2 hrs we would do quite a bit of trotting and may one or 2 short bursts of canter...I thought compared to others we were slow so its nice to see someone else taking about the same time but if you tell me tilly did it all in walk then my boys walk must be super snail paced lol

Today we managed ten minutes on board:rolleyes: brisk walking but then she decided she'd rather not bother.
And ten minutes in hand as I'd to get off and walk her. She is I'm afraid back to her usual cheeky self - coupled with the time of year (this always seems to happen) so I wanted to walk her about just to let her know napping and behaving badly don't mean she gets untacked and let back into her field! I'm going to have to build up slowly........ (If only we hadn't to be so careful over the tendon injuryo_O)

I feel Storm's pain. The vet told me to exercise Raf every day if I can because of his arthritic joint, which for me means in the evening walking in hand round the indoor school. He's not allowed to do more than walk in the school and I find it really boring. Luckily Raf is quite amenable. I can mix it up a bit by putting some poles at different distances, but I don't suppose you can do that for Storm when she's recovering from injury.

Lots of fun today Andi's trainer did end up being able to come
I had ridden Sonny an hr and set up some obstacles for for Andi and Sonny when I kwew he could come
rode sonny 15 min playing with the obsatcles then 45 min in hand with Andi before he got there
Then we rode for about an hr and played with obstacles for about an hour

It was fun and not real cold

I bet your trainer loves coming to you :)

It was mostly walking, some trotting, no cantering. If I increase the trotting and add the canter I tend to do it in 1 and half hours give or take.
Her average walk is 3mph, but her worried walk is 4.1mph and not the impulsion people refer to! We had that at her wobble spot for about a mile then she resettles.

Good to know, i think Tilly and Marley must have about the same mph ;)

Sign us up! Rusty and I want to join in. Well I do. Rusty is still making faces about it. I don't have any sort of an arena or school to ride in so I school all over the place all the time. I'll just count it all as hacking. Today it was rainy and muddy so I fluffed up Rusty's hair and combed out his long pretty tail.

Totals so far for the year:
Inhand: 1 hr
Ridden: 20 min.

@newforest No- it's something I've never learned to do. I learned to lunge on two lines so thought it would be quite easy to move round to behind Raf and carry on like that, but it really confused him and I wasn't sure what to do so abandoned the idea quickly! I can't really do a dressage test because we're supposed to avoid circles as much as possible and the school is only small so it's quite a challenge. I'm banned from schooling in the school - such a shame :) When the fields dry up and Raf goes out again it won't be so much of a problem, it's only because Raf is stuck in all day that I have to exercise him in the evenings - YO did offer to turn him out now but vet thought it wouldn't be helpful as he'd only be standing in deep mud at the round feeder.

I ought to learn to long line though, in fact I was wondering what to do about lessons now that I can no longer have riding lessons in the school - I think that might be a good lesson to ask for.

Anyway, for the hacking challenge ....

Rode out on all three weekend days last weekend. On the 1st we had a local ride of 4.7 miles. Raf was a little stuffy again to start with, but got better as the ride went on. On 2nd I was at the farriers so took the opportunity to ride out from there. I planned my route to stick to paths rather than through fields, but even so it was really wet and hard going in places and one of the paths was like a mini river, with water just running down it. Raf very bravely plodded through that and all the mud, I was proud of him. It started to rain about 5 minutes after we set off and carried on for the rest of the day.

Bridges are no problem to my trusty hacking partner now...

It rained and rained and rained ....

There was a red kite flying quite low around the trees here, but it had gone by the time I'd struggled with reins, gloves and pockets to get my phone out

We did 7 miles on that ride and the next day I had a short hack out round the village with OH of 2 miles.

Total to date = 13.7 miles

Its raining everywhere it seems like.

People must be used to seeing horses on the roads around there. Even though I live in the country people look at me like I'm the oddest site they've ever seen if I go out on the road. They act like they have never even seen a horse before. Either that, or if it is someone I know, they honk their horn to say hi. I want to say, "Please, please don't do that."

We don't have much choice but to go on the roads unfortunately. That village I was riding through has quite a few bridlepaths coming out onto the road, so I guess they must get quite a lot of horses going through the village. I wish we could avoid roads altogether but sadly it isn't possible.

I am discovering that mine isn't keen on water if it's loitering or reflects light. If it's sunny my view on the world is yippee let's hack, hers is let's get bendy.
Waiting to try out my new waterproofs.

No, Raf doesn't like puddles reflecting the sun either. It must be quite confusing for them. How come you have to wait to try out your new waterproofs. Isn't it raining down South? It hasn't actually rained here since this morning, but it's forecast again tomorrow. Some areas not far away have thick snow!

Very picturesque scenery though.

@Bodshi no its been dry the last two hacks. It will get me I'm sure.

My bridlepath is this, it's hard to see but you can only walk in the rocky centre. The gradient goes up at the sides and it's narrower than it looks. Further on its slippery rock with a slight stream. No one else I know uses it, but I get off to lead and she picks her route.

@newforest that looks terrible. On our hack we did have to negotiate a couple of paths where the topsoil had washed away and left just mud and stones, but at least the paths were level. I have no idea whether there is a responsibility for anyone to repair bridlepaths, do you?

@Mary Poppins, I hope you are feeling better today. Don't be rushing down to that yard too soon though, look after yourself and keep warm!
