2019 Hacking/Riding Thread

Well this weekend was my Harveyversary (I've had Harvey for 3 years now). On Saturday I went to ride with the girl I shared my share horse with - beacause we shared the same horse we had never ridden together before. She no looks after 3 ex racers who have never done much other than racing. She has been riding them in the field and for very short hacks but needed some equine company to progress. I took Harvey over in the horsebox and we had a nice hack around the area I used to ride.

On Sunday it was the fifth anniversary of the first time I show jumped (wonderful thing Facebook!). I took Harvey to an SJ clinic with my YO instructing. We practiced small combinations of fences building up to a full round at 90cm. The fences then went up and I opted just to do part of the course as Harvey was feeling tired. We did 2 doubles, a skinny and an oxer - the first 3 being 100cm and the oxer 105cm which is the highest Harvey and I have jumped. My groom did take some video, but its proving a bit difficult to acquire it from her ATM!

When we got back I borrowed the yard veteran to accompany another livery for a hack as she doesn't hack on her own.

Oh happy Harveyversary! I'm not on FB so I use this as my diary for Hogan. I'll bet it seems as though you've always had him!

I would do the one you are most happy with as you will be more relaxed and therefore more likely to enjoy it (and extend your boundaries a bit).
I think you're right - when I think of the miles and miles I used to cover with Ramsey, which usually involved lots of trotting, and a couple of fast canters, and jumping logs, I could kick myself. I'll see how the mood takes me next outing.

My YO had an ex racer that she and her husband bought to race, he was no good at it so he then point to pointed for s couple of years, and then she took him back as a happy hacker. Sweetest, most biddable horse I've ever come across. EXCEPT! When we hacked out to a track in the forest, called "the 5 furlong' - he'd be off like the wind, with poor Ramsey, all 13.3hh of him trying to keep up. Must have reminded him of the race track - it was sandy, and on a long curve. He did look magnificent though, (from a long way behind!)

Went out Thursday for what turned out to be a VERY slow hack. I think he thinks he was weak from hunger. From the 2nd pic, you can see he's wasting away..... . Autumn colours are getting lovely now, my mum used to say Autumn was nature showing off. Not a good pic, as the forest is just beautiful at the moment.Screenshot_20191026-151813_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20191026-151839_Gallery.jpg

He's lovely! Bet it is gorgeous where you are. That's the only thing I miss a little, not many trees up here. And it's windy as hell today, no hacking / pootling or anything for us!

LOL huggy have you seen the utube of the horse falling down playing dead
when someone tries to get on????
Its kind of comical yet scary at the same time.
I like that saying NATURE SHOWING OFF :p :p ;)

Its the prelude to things looking bleak in winter except for the beauty of a
SMALL fresh snowfall.... with the key word being small
I am not keen on snow.

My first birthday present today was my best - gorgeous sunny, frosty morning. Just beautiful. Had an intentionally laid back ride - suited Hogan perfectly. Didn't meet another soul, canine or equine. The pic below is my substitute for a go pro or someone else taking a picture. Hogan looks 18hh and I look 3'6"! The leaves are coming down so fast - overnight it's a carpet of red, gold and russet.20191028_213732.jpgScreenshot_20191028-160527_Gallery.jpg

This whole week is going to be dank gloomy drizzly misty rainy   :(:(
Not a riding week:mad:

Sonny was a silly silly boy playing with the pole cross yesterday..
Its a good thing with the ground a bit saturated from all the rain sunday
that he was not at liberty getting too wild.
Even if its a bit crummy if its not actually raining im going to try to do
lots of ground work this week.
He did finally settle down to nice transitions.;)
I don't do well with dank gloom and this prolonged ALL WEEK of it is really going
to be the PITTS.

Wahey! He's wired in pic 3!! :p

Well Saturday was a total washout - it rained all day. I did wash the horsebox which saved me the job of rinsing off, but as I always say riding should be fun I decided it wouldn't be and didn't!

Sunday was a beautiful day so Harvey and I had a gentle hack around.

Monday was a big day - after 18 weeks of waiting Harvey's new transport arrived. We also managed to fit in 30 minutes of jump schooling.

Next weekend will be introducing Harvey to his new wheels!

Its not really this colour - its more maroon
