2019 Hacking/Riding Thread

I don't think I dare use it - its too shiny!

@horseandgoatmom that sort of van is very common in the uk. Most people don't have a car that is big enough to tow a trailer (float?) and you need a lorry driving licence to drive a big lorry. These vans can usually be driven on a car licence but only carry one big horse because of weight restrictions. There are lots of vans around so they are cheap(ish!) to buy and run. (converting them costs quite a bit though) Mine can carry 2 but I need a lorry licence to drive it.

Well Saturday was a total washout - it rained all day. I did wash the horsebox which saved me the job of rinsing off, but as I always say riding should be fun I decided it wouldn't be and didn't!

Sunday was a beautiful day so Harvey and I had a gentle hack around.

Monday was a big day - after 18 weeks of waiting Harvey's new transport arrived. We also managed to fit in 30 minutes of jump schooling.

Next weekend will be introducing Harvey to his new wheels!

Its not really this colour - its more maroon

Ahhh so that is not made specifically as a horse van????
You had to get it retro fitted..????
Or is there a company that does it all
Start to finish??

I think its a much better idea than a trailer.

That was an awesome present from
Your oh:):)

No it starts as a panel van like below and a specialised company cuts the body off and turns it into a horse van :) The company do it all - they find a second hand van and then convert it (or you can have a new one if you are really rich!)

Its for sure not riding weather its THE PITTS  :(
Dank gloomy mist fog is the yuky for sure.
LOL my sinus don't like it either.
I did have a good session in his paddock a couple days ago and in the cavaletti pen.
His paddock has a slight slope which is really good.
My husband set backone of the other tracor tires and yesterday morning I played with that and then had a good online play in the arena.
Hopefully this weather pattern will break a bit SOON.
I want to get back to riding.
Today and tomorrow will be horribly crummy with heavy rains and winds.
I got some nice transitions and animated turns with no silliness.
Then lol he stops on the other side of the wood chips...
YES I CAN STILL SEE YOU FUNNY BOY.

Managed a ride early, despite the rain (Thank you lovely daughter, for the waterproof saddle cover). Such a good boy, ponies everywhere, and not a flicker. Just realised today that when we get in the gate of the forest, I don't need to position him by the stone thingy I mount from - he just plonks himself in the right place for me. :).

Managed out this morning, actually quite nice weather. Hogan was SOOO slow again. Still an ok ride though. He was walking incredibly slowly, and ignoring my leg and my voice, so I gave a sharp tap with my whip, and the chubby back end came up (as high as Hogan can manage, which is not very high, lol), but that was it, and I got about 200 yards of reasonably active walk, and then it died out. When we got back, he immediately peed in his box, so I think that was the issue - if the twit had stopped I'd have happily waited while he went . Moved them into the winter field - he thinks he's died and gone to heaven - lots of grass in the bit they're in - hope it's not too rich. Took us 3 hours to fence off the oak trees o_O.

Takes longer than you think fencing doesn't it? OH and me seem to have spent a huge portion of today doing the same (not fencing oaks lol but our hack track)

I haven't ridden since before this root canal procedure I had done on Friday. Quite looking forward to getting on again as he was lovely to me even though I was clearly in agony last week! I do think they sense when we aren't quite right - the nice ones look after us I think :D

Oooh - I feel for You - I've got an hour and 45 mins at the dentist on Friday - I'm bricking it! . The fencing was a nightmare - had to cut SO much down so nothing was touching it. Hogan is very sluggish, and much more docile though - also a very fat tummy! He was very mardy when he was hungry. Hope we haven't given them too much.

Oooh lots of vibes for your appointment, hopefully it will pass quickly and all be worth it!

Well the weekend started off as a repeat of last weekend so my planed hack with a friend got cancelled. It cleared up later though so YO and I had a quick hack round while there was enough light

On Sunday YO wanted the project pony that she and the grooms have been schooling to go out hacking with one of the grooms as he as only been hacked by her before and we wanted to see what he was like in a small group and a less strong rider. I was sent as babysitter on the yard veteran. We had a nice hack and bothe ponies were good as gold.

After that I had a lesson on Harvey culminating in jumping a fence at 110cm which is the highest I have ever jumped.

Babysitting :)

Well granny duties well and truly underway now - nursery drop off and pick up, school drop off and pick up, dinner, baths and bed and 5.30 wake up calls from grandson number one . However, took Hogan out today, (in my 3 hour window of freedom!) and boy, it did me good. He's as fat as a pig, with his extra grass, and slow, but so good. Again had to go through a small herd of ponies, and he aced it, then past a herd of cows within 15 ft, and again behaved impeccably. A few lovely little trots, which got him sweating (!) - yes, that's how fat he is! Now that I have my 4 days/nights childcare to do, I think fatty will be what keeps me sane!
