2023 Hacking and Riding

Yes sorry that's what I meant.
It seems weird with all its transitions.

I don’t mind it means I know where im Trotting out a hack 😃 most of the transitions for him are small spooks 🤣🤣🤣 oh and jogging to catch up as he has a shorter walk than a Shetland pony 🤣🤣🤣

Oh its that sensitive. 🤣🤣
In that case her few jogs would have registered.Would love it to add up our trotting.
She's also got a short stride and would rather trot than offer more impulsion.

I have just swapped my Thursday shift next week to a Monday shift to get my manager out of a hole. I made sure he knew that this was a BIG sacrifice because the forecast for Monday is good and I was hoping to be out on Sid all day.

He gave me a bottle of Cremant de Bourgogne to say thank you!

We did the proper schooling type thingy. He put in 11/10 effort and when the wildness was channeled he was brilliant. I can’t tell him off for being keen and helpful 😊 No trot warm up allowed (by him) so we spent time in canter doing twiddly bits. He finds canter easier than trot. He worked really hard for a hood 30mins and was amazing. He was then pooped and could barely keep his eyes open 😂🥰

I don't ride in the rain as I she's already soaked and I have no where to dry my gear.
But we have our wet weather gear for leading and lunging in the rain.

I just edited that as it actually said I don't ride on the train 😂

I'm afraid if P's wet he gets ridden anyway! It's un-British & I have plenty of friends that won't ride a wet horse (and are mildly horrified I do) but if I didn't ride when it was raining and he was wet he'd have been almost retired the last 10 years 🤣

I am one of those weird people that still enjoys lunging, longreining and leading. I need bad weather to do that, as in nice weather I am on board and getting on with canter and jumpies if I can find something. 😂

Same with Hogan - he's not rugged most of the time, so out we go. Doesn't seem to bother him

We're doomed. Lovely morning, nice, calm Hogan, and off we go. Going down the back track we came across some ponies, and somewhere in the distance a pony yelling for her friends. Hogan got a bit jittery, but not too bad. Then one of the ponies spooked at us, and shot off full pelt - he got a bit more jittery, but manageable - just. Got to the gate into the forest, got through, and proceeded up the track, at which point 4 or more ponies came haring down the track behind us, and past our back, like the hounds of hell were after them. Hogan nearly fainted, then began throwing himself about. I decided discretion was the better part of valour, rode (kind of) 50 ft up the track, and turned for home. He pranced very prettily the whole way home, and probably exercised himself more than if we'd had a proper hack. I'm not sorry that we gave up - I could still hear that wretched pony yelling while I poo picked.

We have had rides like that.
It can be if someone has removed a horse from the herd, or introduced a horse.
It's pretty wild out there at the moment, sometimes they just feel the urge to do zooms zooms.

It's usually like that after they've been drifting, but that finished ages ago. Hogan's pretty good with ponies now, but today was exceptional! I had planned to avoid them, but they had other ideas.

I think that pony yelling would upset the sanest of horses wouldn't it. I would have given up too!

I just feel defeated today. Went out and all was OK, then met some dog walkers, who did nothing to spark the absolute sh*t show that followed. I stayed on for another 5 minutes, hoping he'd settle, but he felt like he was going to bolt and I don't feel like hitting the deck at full tilt. Even leading he was a total jerk. What's worse I lost my temper at one point (he was trying to barge me off the track) and gave him a hell of a whack across the chest. Just fed up. I'll take him out again, but these smells usually last about 2 weeks, so hopefully he'll settle in a week or so.😩

Sending chin up vibes. I think there's more than one thing going on here. Unknowingly you are grieving and giving off vibes I'll put money on it - Hogan is picking up something - and that combined with crap weather / cold weather I think is adding up to some rocky rides. Give yourself some time off. I know it's frustrating, but for me personally, if there's too much going on in life (and not that much of it good) I used to leave off the riding. But of course I do know Hogan has always had his regular ups and downs.................:(

Sounds sensible to dismount. I got off too once this year.
Has the rain brought out a lot of new green grass? Lots of bright new patches last Sunday when we were walking. My old share's occasional bad behaviour was completely tied to diet.
As for that whack - I have seen both our old RI and the very expert YM get crosser (firmer?) with a horse than I have ever been.
But I dont need to be as I can ask for help. You own your horse and that requires authority and toughness on occasion

I was grooming again on Thursday so no time to ride.. Saturday was a nice hack with S and on Sunday a bit of jumping practice as I haven't jumped since early December,

Harvey hates being clean!
