And we’re there...

A lot of people rebadged ideals and sold them as their own brand back in the day Ive been told!

I love the older style ones on my chunky horse with a huge shoulder. I have an ideal event (MW) for his jump saddle and a suzannah (W) for his dressage.

I did wonder if that’s why, tbh I don’t care particularly, but like to know what I’m getting.

It’s the newer gullet version. I love the HM seat and Monkey likes serge so I’m hopeful, but a bit wary about weight on it, I’m at the top end of what HM suggests.
Only just seen this.
Have you tried it on. Usually with the rider nearer the top end of the right limit I suggest going for the pads designed to cater for that such as the Barefoot Physio.
However as it's an HM they may well do their own pads.
I think you can still get fitters for these saddles as someone took the business over when Heather retired. Though I could be mixing that up with the Paddles that are out there.

I didn’t even sit in it, it looked ok until I girthed it up then it shifted right forward, he really needs a point strap (which the flexee doesn’t have). I have got a skito pad for the Freeform and a pro choice air ride, but the girthing just means it’s not worth messing with.

No if it's totally off initially it's not worth adjusting.

I swear I drove past and Monkey was in the right place, I park up and walk back through 2 minutes later and he has gone over 1 electric fence and through 2 more to get back into the winter field 🤦‍♀️ and that’s the 3rd time this week! It’s his stomach driving him.

So I set about fixing fences and testing them, making sure 4 km’s of fence was working as it should. Then I started ragworting and quickly realised that has gotten away from me, so went and loaded the backpack sprayer and did about 4 acres, it most definitely needed doing! Then I went to reset the fences in the summer field, and divided that into 3 as there’s TONS of grass in there. As I was doing it Monkey was threatening to go over/through a fence again to get to me 😡 And after all that I was aching so didn’t ride 😏 I put the bigs out on the summer field for an hour,

and Dan out on the track for 20 minutes, had a brief sit down and got everyone back and went home for dinner, I was starving as I didn’t get lunch!

Heading out tonight and I unlocked the car to grab something and Monkey did a 4 foot spook, didn’t bode well but he was a gem 💎 once we got going 🤩

It was chillier than it looks! But very enjoyable. He’s got the osteo tomorrow night so probably a couple of days off and we’ll be back to it Saturday 🤞

Monkey had the osteo tonight, she only saw him a few months ago and immediately commented how much he’s grown into himself. He had a sore shoulder and neck behind the shoulder and she got a big crack and he was instantly relieved. Plus quite a lot of tension down that same side, explains his crabby canter to the right recently! He’s got to have the day off tomorrow and then easy work Saturday.

The bar angle wasn’t quite right so I switched back to my old saddle to go out. It was a perfect day 🥰

This morning I rode in the 2 saddles I borrowed last week, the WH didn’t suit me. The ideal VSD seemed pretty good on him, and not bad for me but after riding in the field for 10 minutes it seemed to move onto his shoulders, I feel like he needs a saddle with point straps to stop that, and sadly that one doesn’t have them. The search continues.

I hope you find a saddle that's comfy for both of you eventually. Its a huge subject isn't it. I sometimes watch random youtube's made by saddle fitters etc just to try and learn a bit.

Yeah but for most it isn’t this hard! I’m a princess with a pea, he is also a princess with a different pea, getting something to suit us both is just going to take time!

I had another play with the VSD last night, it’s a no. I wanted it to be a yes, trying different girths and pads but it still shimmied up his shoulders just on the lunge, so definitely a no.

We were booked to go away for a few days to the beach mid May, so I’ve pushed it back to early June because I don’t think I should ask too much in my old saddle (though I haven’t found anything better for him). If I have to push it again it won’t be until September as June is mad at work and I’m off to Skye, Harris and Lewis in July and I won’t bother then until the school holidays are over 😏

I got out with Monkey this morning before work as had to return the 5 saddles tonight. He wasn’t keen to go, but once I got on he was really happy to go, it was windy but lovely

The osteo obviously helped as he was keen to canter and better than he’s been in weeks!

Almost at home something bothered him and he stopped and snorted lots, not wanting to ruin a lovely ride I hopped off, then I let him stop for snacks, I think this picture perfectly captures his joy 😁
