Coronavirus

@Ale do you have a union? If you do this is just the sort of thing you should refer to them. If you don't I would at the very least send my concerns to them in an email so there is proof of what is happening and that you've tried to make the situation safer but they're unwilling to help.
I'm contemplating joining one as I don't see why I should have to take the time unpaid really when furlough is an option for some staff. They tried to use lots of things against me today which I don't think is at all professional. They just never seem to handle things well. My managers all saying well they don't want to be furloughed but don't have a choice so I should stop complaining. You are well within your rights to refuse furlough so learn your facts maybe!

@Ale you are right it completely defeats the point of creating teams/bubbles if they have you working with both! That’s just dumb. They can furlough you if you’re part time, they just don’t want to do extra work ?

Yes from their very angry and defensive attitude I know it's just something like this. At one point my manager refused to even let me talk so I know I'm not in the wrong here. Sadly there isn't much law wise covering all this. A compromise is fine it just seems to be me doing it all

I think some of us have wanted you to join a union for some time. If your constituency has a Labour MP (which it probably doesnt) you may get some help from their Covid support group. Ours is on facebook.
Both my OH when redundant and our s.i.l. had help from their unions. It is a common tactic to make it look as if staff resign as a Company may not have to pay them the accrued pension and benefits.

I've just had a reply from health and safety at the local authorities and they say there is nothing in law preventing them from asking me to work within both teams. There is nothing I can really do I don't think. Seems utterly mad.

I'm sorry to hear that @Ale.

Our business is split into two teams but their are some people who are in both where there is a business need. But the majority of us are WFH anyway, which does make it easier.

Did they provide any explanation of additional protective steps they'd put in place if you were to work on both teams?

Not additional no, just said that so long as I social distance then there is no greater risk than just being on one. But if so why are they splitting us into 2 teams then?

Remember I told you about the family that got together at Xmas and one of the youngsters later tested positive? Well both grandparents are now in hospital and doing poorly - stupid, stupid people...

DIL says the hosp is up to capacity and having to limit oxygen supplies as that is maxed out too.

Needless to say, we are staying well clear of other people and I am so glad that Scully is being looked after in Tuscany - they are totally locked down and she has her own round of hay!

I dashed into supermarket for potatoes last night, walked in, past security guard, 30 ft into shop, and realised I'd forgotten my mask. Flew back, apologised to the guard, and ran to car to get it. No one challenged me, and I must have passed 3 or 4 staff.

Kite rider im with you on that..

A really annoying guy in the grocery store Sunday.

All the aisles are marked one way.

Yes is annoying to have to go all the way round..down an aisle you may not need to get to the other end..
But thats how it is and we need to just do it..

This huge really REALLY TALL HULK ofva guy walks right in the wrong way

I said your Going the wrong way

Hes a real intimidating bully type..
He gived me a dirty look.
Trust me buster you dont intimidate me im thinking..

Isnt this creep doing the same thing down the next aisie

Like he is deliberately doing it
And being hugely tall and gigantic
Whos gonna give him crap..
Hes gonna do what he wants.

I confronted him I wont use THE exact words... but he looked shocked
Walked a few feet then TURNED AROUND TO GO THE PROPER WAY..

Lol he probably didnt want to meet
The LITTLE OLD LADY in the next aisle..going the wrong way again.

I follow the rules and Im not keeping quiet when people don't.

I really got the impression no one EVER QUESTIONS ANY ACTIONS due to his size.

Personally I think masks should be mandatory outside your home, anywhere, not just inside shops, but every single place you go outside of your front door unless you are medically exempt.

I think the medical experts believe there is very little risk of contracting it outdoors if you're keeping a safe distance and so masks are unnecessary. If you're outside but can't keep a safe distance then common sense would say wear one, but I wouldn't agree with it being made the rule.

Therein lies the problem, most people, certainly those I’ve seen out and about (from my car)wouldn’t know what two metres distance was if it jumped up and smacked them with a stick.
I know they say it’s ‘safe’ outdoors and you allegedly can’t spread it outside but it strikes me as a bit of Bojo bullshit to be honest, how many times have you smelled cigarette smoke outside? When the person smoking is many metres away? As far as I’m concerned if I can smell someone’s cigarette smoke from five metres away that’s how far their outward breath is travelling, if it’s travelling that far how do I know that all those potential Covid droplets haven’t travelled with it?
I know I’m paranoid though so maybe I just overthink things that are Covid related.

I don't think how far away you can smell something has any relevance to how far an airborne virus can travel. When I was a kid living in the country there were times you could smell the farmers spreading muck on fields a good distance away even in the house, if Covid can spread like that we need to be living in hermetically sealed bubbles.

@carthorse totally understand what you are saying, still can’t see how being outside when people won’t socially distance is safe, I’ll stick to wearing my mask outside anyway, not that I go anywhere other than the yard and back now.

I am struggling to wear one when going shopping. I keep coming out and as soon as im in the car i have to get it off. Im not sure if im having some kind of allergic reaction or what but my face is itching and burning wearing them.

A few weeks back i had to take my car into the garage. I sat in there showroom for an hour whilst my car was being fixed. Then i went to the petrol station, then to the vets to pick some meds up. In between id taken it off, but i must have been wearing it for about 21/2 hours total. I was headachy, dizzy, felt wobbly when walking, my face was bright red and itching.

I havent beeen wearing one when im at work, just dont think i could. Some people have got the heating on so high, i think i will be flat out on the floor if i wore a mask. Im actually at the point of stopping work again. Several have cancelled me the last couple of weeks, im on the verge of stopping the rest.
Some have said they want me to keep working but i think its wrong.

@chunky monkey I struggle wearing one for long too. I find using a scarf as a face covering is easier than a mask, but even so by the time round the supermarket I often need to use my blue inhaler to calm my breathing down. I suspect I'd struggle if I had to wear one to do anything active.

I can cycle in a mask now I forget I'm wearing them. No asthma or anything like that though as I'm sure that would make it alot harder. Equine influenza can travel something like 5 miles so I too am careful outside as well as in. I think I would be glad to see people encouraged to wear them outside too. I really hope my work follows suit with all the supermarkets banning people not wearing a mask unless exempt.
