Hi .just wondering if any one uses e&l insurance and if so how do they rate them?Ive been on another forum and didnt get very good feed back im debating what to do ,stay with them or look else where! :(

Don't want to say anything too much here for fear of getting sued, but suffice to say I used to be insured with them but have now changed to Petplan equine. Not much difference price wise, but I feel a little more 'covered' if you know what I mean!

I too wouldn't touch them with a barge pole. Don't want to say to much but had a friend who made a totally genuine, but rather large claim. No money was ever seen and she was left is alot of trouble. The trouble the insurance is ment to prevent. I use NFU and couldn't recommend them more. Everybody I know uses them and nobody I know has ever had any problem with them. They are very friendly, reasonably priced and always pay up.

Just a quickie to back up what everyone else has said. I have had a bad experience with E&L and once bitten twice shy.

I too am with NFU and they are great. I was with them several years ago and then switched as they got quite pricey. But they seem to have become really competitive again in the last 2 years and are well worth a try.

My parents made the mistake of going with E&L, only because they had no idea who to ensure with. Vet literally said they were the worst company to be with, phoned regarding claim, they were not interested. Changed straight to NFU.

We use South Essex Insurance Brokers and have had a couple of large claims - including the one last year for a fractured splint bone that involved about 6 trips to the vets for x rays. Probably ran into thousands all told. Couldn't fault SEIB. One phone call, one form to fill in. After that all vets bills settled direct to vet with no hassle at all.

I would recommend the nfu but they gave us such a stupid quote for Robin!

ernie + sparrow have nfu
robin has e&l
chester has south essex.

they are all with different companies for a reason. my last pony jake, had a bad illness, he was off-work for 6 months, so what did the nfu do? they exlcuded jake and twiglet for anemia, virusues, lung and liver infections. we were fuming!

we are claiming for robin now, it is over £2000 so e&l better pay up! they only pay 17.5% though, unlike the other companies.

Most vets ask you NOT to insure with E&I. Best bets are SEIB, KBIS and NFU.

I have been with SEIB and KBIS (now with KBIS for several years and they have paid all claims speedily and without incident).

I give them a thumbs up!!!!

Hi!

Unfortunately I am going to disagree with you all!!! i insured through E & L, and about a month after I took out the policy, my mare starting growing a bump on her head!!! (I had high hopes I had bought a unicorn!!!!)

Anyway, no one could really work out what was going on - she was submitted to the vet who examined ex-rayed etc etc, anyway, the total bill came to about £500/600!!!! With no real conclusion, apart from - she must have banged her head!!!!

I was getting a little panicky at this point, thinking of all the possible insurance problems, however, E & L settled the bill with the vets directly immediately with no chasing, hassle - nothing!!!!

Maybe I was the lucky one!!???

SEIB gets my vote, my horse is currently being treated for pedal osteitis and to date they have paid out approx £1000 for x-rays, blocks and corrective shoeing.

They've been really helpful (not minding me ask daft, obvious questions). Haven't been with them for long (4 months maybe when I started claiming). Can't fault them (touch wood!)
