So we are focusing on the loan pony for the summer :D Snowy is very happy in his loan home so hopefully he will settle and have a lovely summer doing his job, ie giving confidence.

As I waffle on, the questions are in bold!

Today our 6 year old girly decides she can do it all  When she got on she was not prepared to do more than a walk and then out of nowhere she suddenly realised this pony was very responsive and would go forward at a quick old pace.

So next thing - she is trotting around the menage like a maniac - going so fast I couldn't keep up and hubby had to take over  She wasn't on the lead rope, we were just running beside her

Pony was doing THE most fabulous trot and she was really getting on well with it, round and round she went.

She then scared us witless by out of nowhere steering him into a small jump and popping over it  Cue her parents nearly passing out! Everyone watching all drew in their breath - you could hear everyone!

Anyway, she has announced she wants to go to the local show that is on Saturday - nothing like a lot of notice then is there

Not sure about doing lead rein - for some reason this one is 12.2 and under and he is 12.2 so we COULD do it but how do we do an individual show??????And where can I get a lemon shirt from that isn't from our local tack shop for £35?

I think we'll do turnout but what do we need for that? Not talking tack or rider wise as she'll be in canary jods, oxblood regent boots, caldene navy jacket, tie to match the browband and rosette badge for her, ribbons in her hair to match browband, lemon shirt IF I can get one (tried to die one lemon and it didn't work so I need to buy one), skull cap with navy cover as I am can't get her a hat small enough! Her head is only 50cm even tho she is 6 years old, the smallest show hats are too big and we don't do it seriously enough to justify buying a £100 show hat just yet.

He is gray so should I use white girth or will brown be OK?

I was going to bath him tomorrow and get him looking as good as we can, and he will be plaited.

Otherwise we are aiming high and doing prettiest face, best tail et so top level serious stuff :D

Sorry to go on but this is VERY important to her. Snowy is a full up Sec A so she showed him in tweeds but this one is Arab Welsh cross so we need to show as show pony so we have had to move over to Blue jacket, etc.

Oh and finally, should she wear a waist coat for turnout class???

Any other tips????

Daughter is DESPERATE to go to this show and I can't bear to let her down when its so important to her so anything anyone can pass on I'd be really grateful

individual show do a very simplified dressage test type thing - im sure people on hre can reccomend some

tack and turnout i would have though normal tack, cleaned obviously, plaited if hes a riding pony,

white girth prob better if you have one

not sure about waistcoat but i doubt its necessary TBH

have fun, make sure you get pics for us!!!

All I can say is this is a local show. I'ts not PUK just yet!

A brown girth will be fine I can guarentee that. I'm not up on showing itself, but do you have to wear a yellow shirt? At our local show I see plenty of parents in jeans! The ones who do go for smart wear white shirts, with ties and waistcoats or with show jackets. They either wear light trousers of creme jods and boots.

And should she wear a waistcoat? I presume you mean your daughter? No! As far as my understanding goes, she will be fine in her ordinary show gear and show jacket.

But remember your camera!

:D camera WILL be there - don't worry :D

she will be up against pony's that go to HOYS - just the way it is around here - the professionals turn up at the local shows so its kinda sad for us amateurs!

the shirt is for her

hubby will be leading her as he will wear his work suit, a tie that co-ordinates with hers and he even has a bowler hat :D Thanks to his Grandfather who always wore one to work every day - we inhereited it - so its being put to good use :D Me - I can't stand all that dressing up malarky so I'd rather get everyone ship shape and watch proudly on :D

Girth is 40" (I have Snowy's white girth but I am 99% sure it will be too small for loan pony) and we need a 5 - 6 year old or simlar shirt so I am wondering about a school outfitters????

And this is how we turned out for pony with prettiest face, pony with nicest tail, pony judge would most like to take home, etc. She won 3 x 1sts in those classes so we like to try our best, even if we don't win (she is DESPERATE to get a 6th as its purple

1-matalan? asda? high street? i got my show shirt from matalan cos i had about 2 days before a show & suddenly my old shirt didnt fit me any more! lol

2-if you have a white girth i think it might be better but if you dont just use whatever you have (im guessing its brown?) im sure it wont make that much of a difference.

3-i thought just a show jacket was worn for turnout classes?

I don't have a clue about shows but I just wanted to say that I bet you must be thrilled that your daughter thinks this is working out so well.

Us mum's have a tough time and I'm glad the good times have come again knowing how hard the decision about Snowy was for you both :)

you can get lemon shirts from asda, woolworth or tesco :) (it will be in with the school summer stuff thats just come out.........well there was some there yesterday in our town anyway)

Also juts to put your mind at rest round here nearly all LR classes are 12.2hh and under as Lacey (shhh she's 12.3hh) gets in my the skin of her teeth.

btw just wanted to add my rising 3 yr old son saw your little girl and snowy pic and is officially in love.....they would look a right pair even with your new loan pony as his is white/grey too :p

ETA good luck btw.:)

My show shirts actually came from a local school uniform shop, they're yellow rather than cream, but they looked fab with my navy jacket, and have gone well with every tweed I've worn too. :)

White girth would probably be better, but she didn't give you much notice so not to worry. ;)

One thing you could do about the hat, is cover the harness in a chamois leather, nobody will be able to tell from a distance, and if you were to oil it lightly (perhaps test a bit before you sew it on) you could probably get pretty close to her skin tone. :)

thanks for the lovely messages

we are going to sneak my dad's chamois out of the garage later and attack a few strips off :p At home, we've only got synthetic chamois so not good enuff!

We are shortening her jods later on - they were second hand and a bit long so we are going to smarten them up - that's mum's job (whose also going to try and cover up the straps on her hat too - as long as Dad doesn't catch her)

I'll pm you :D

New pony is a bit lush, we are hoping to drag Snowy along to the next show in May - I've said I'll primp him up for them - we've just got to her the little girl whose got him for the summer a bit more confident and then we can go head to head :D IF Snowy beats us, we don't care :D

We've spent the morning trying to get a shirt to no avail - NO schools around here wear yellow shirts - those that wear yellow, only have polo shirts

I have emailed a few friends back in Surrey as a few schools there do have yellow shirts so hoping someone can get one in the post to me asap :)

Joyscarer - its been a horrid few months to be honest, have we done the right thing, is this going to work, have we made a mistake

last night, it all suddenly clicked and I know we've done the right thing. We knew we had to get Snowy off the yard before she'd try to form any sort of bond with the new one

She went off to school this morning singing "I love M***, I love M***, he's my pony, he's my pony" so looks like we are getting there (mind you she did then say, oh and i love Snowy too don't I Mummy - I smiled and said of course darling, and he loves you, and that seemed to be enough)

I have three families lined up to take Snowy on loan when he comes back on the yard in September if we keep this pony on long term loan. All 3 families know he's to stay on the yard where we are and they all know El's has to click with the loan pony

But if last night was anything to go by, it may just work out - A, ALL we want is for her to be happy

Gotta find the shoe polish and all the metal work (bit etc) is going in the dishwasher tonight

I bought some toothpicks to go over the tack with :D

Even if she doesn't win, I'll give it my best shot so I know we didn't let her down

I feel quite nervous! Silly isn't it!

Just wait until she gets older and you're still grooming for her, you'll get all her stress too!

If the jods are being shortened, sew some elastic on too that will act as a joddy clip, it looks smarter sewn on. :)

And plaiting thread (black/brown) for number string too. ;)

If you can't find a yellow shirt, my shirts always had felt tip marks on at school, so you could try just colouring in the collar and top bit if you get really desperate. :D

thanks

Mum bought her some new jod's as we couldn't get her's on!!!!!

We failed with the shirt so she's going to be in a white one

Just realised Snowy's really posh show browband (see above piccie) won't fit

Loan pony is gray and we had a silver and pink set that would fit but I don't think I should put silver on a grey???

It will have to do :(

Pity, as the red blue gold is LOVELY

Plus got a bargain on Ebay today so everything crossed it turns up in time for Saturday - if it does you can see the piccies

My hands are SORE from tack cleaning

Silver and Pink on a grey will look lovely. Dont worry. ;)

And after all this stressing dont forget the camera needs charging for photo's. :D

I told my daughter yesterday that she was going to the next show. Now we need to get out last years gear and see if it fits her.

don't leave it like us, till the last minute!

honestly, we couldn't get the jods over her feet

luckily the local tack shop had ONE pair in her size - phew

the pink/silver is OK but not as nice as our red blue gold set

all are immaculate so should be OK for turn out

IF we do it

there has to be less than 7 in the class for us to enter as we'll come last as our saddle is synthetic so we'll get way marked down which is sad as our tack will be immaculate as will child

local unaffiliated show

my ****

well, that's what the schedule said

honestly, my husband got told off in turnout as he wasn't wearning a bowler

I took one look at the lead rein class and didn't enter them as she would have been against pony's that show and win at County Level

But I will update you on the day they had tomorrow as I will have pictures

just as a taster, they came 1st in a class of 16 :D, I'll say no more till I have photographs :D

crazy, local showing around here isn't like lots of people are saying

lead rein, local level, they all turn up in their matching jackets and hats!

proper show saddles

proper show bridles

we got marked down for : no bowler, child didn't have gloves on (they were in the landy! just forgot to put them on her - they went on later tho), girth, saddle and I hadn't oiled under his hooves - I had but before we left the yard and meant to reoil before they went in but we were parked right by the entrance to the show ring (NOT by choice!) so I was having trouble getting him ready as they were all barging past to line up to go in and he started pratting about a bit so I didn't bother

and that's just local showing level!!!! You can imagine what it gets like when you start looking at affiliated shows and qualifiers

update on how they did on another thread

but we are def going purple, that's my decision! Hubby will be MUCH happier in purple than pink

I wouldn't bother with T&T unless you want to take it really seriously, it's bloomin' hard work! Spare gloves under the girth straps, hat tails sewn up, stuff in your pocket.. And we still never bloomin' won one. :p

We aren't bothering this year, I don't have the energy. ;)

Are you going to get a really really really bling browband? :D

purplebrowband.jpg

mrs-candy-2006-018.jpg

I'm sure she'd make it in purple if you asked...

Seriously, those are all way OTT. You could make one though, they aren't difficult. I don't know if you're anywhere near it, but Bombay Stores in Bradford have the most fantastic range of ribbons and trimmings. You could take your daughter to choose some and then whiz it up into a browband. When I make them I use buttons as centres. Costs a fraction of the price, I think the cheapest of those is £40.

Actually, I quite like the second one.
