Minimum age for a happy hack?

I took Evie out at 5 and she galloped everywhere, lol, despite being sold to me as perfect for a novice:giggle: but was perfect in traffic...that made a big difference.

Cherie is ace perfect with 'aids' and....afraid of nothing lol, (except maybe cows?:giggle: ) never been a problem, she is just an up for it go anywhere pony....only trouble is she fights for space on the road with big traffic, totally forgets aids (I was here first:stomp: and will challenge anything:frown: ) oh dear not a good idea. Ya can't win. I took her out from 2 years in hand then ridden from 4 years....we are still in one piece.....just about:giggle:

I would say a 10 year old is what you will get for the rest of its life.

A lot of horses mature late, and 7/8 is not too late to still be having a bit of a 'kevin' attitude.

By 10 their character is moulded, and whatever that is, is how it will be for the rest of their lives. Not particularly down to how they have been ridden/handled etc., just how they are.

My friends 20 year old cob, although saintly is most ways, is a monkey up fields - she seems to think she HAS to gallop everywhere up fields - so much so, that I often put Tobes not inconsiderable backside in front of her so that she can't do her 'tanking off'!!
