Myth, Fact Or Fiction

What have you been told about horses that you think is a myth or is there truth in it? I'll start you guys off.

I've heard a saying

"One white sock buy
Two white socks try
Three white socks walk away",

True or not everyone is now counting the socks on their horses!

The other

"Ask a gelding, tell a mare, suggest to a stallion" i think, correct me if this is round the wrong way.

A horse with two whorls on it's face is a fruitcake
Small eyes and small ears walk away.

Chestnut mare-we've all heard this one but i don't why colour would make a difference.

Well R has 3 white socks and never had a problem....but her actual hooves are striped and not white which is where I think the saying comes from as white horn reputed to be softer than black/dark.

I think it should be tell a gelding, suggest to a mare, ask a stallion!

R is a chestnut TB (albeit x with ID) mare and she's one of the sanest, calmest horses I've ever known!!!

And as for the whorls, eyes and ears - well that's Nugz b*ggered then!!!
 
I heard if it has a whorl on its neck it will be a great horse?? Lol!!!

And i thought it was 'Challenge a stallion, tell a gelding and reason with a mare!'

Also heard a horse with 4 yellow hoofies is no good!

Load of old tosh really :wink:

I can't speak for horses, but as a redhead myself, I can tell you that the 'red hair = fiery temper' saying is true. But only my nearest and dearest know that! I don't let it out in front of anyone else!! In fact it's pretty much just my OH that gets that special treat - though not sure he appreciates it!:giggle:
 
I agree with ask a mare and tell a gelding. If I asked Kai to do anything we'd end up in a long and fruitless conversation about the weather as he'd just change the subject every time I mentioned work. Tell him though and he's fabulous.

Dolly and Nelly on the other hand would be very put out if I told them anything - they like to be consulted and to feel involved ;)
 
Our shire has 4 white legs and light colour hooves our farrier had to get special snips as they are like iron, a:)
 
Read on here many years ago, somebody said if a horses chestnuts fell off it would die!!! Can't see that being true or my mare would be dead a few times by now!lol. I love picking them off (I know, tis sad but I love the smell of 'em!!!!!!) eeeeek......

I thought that the whorl on the neck meant the horse was going to be great (if the Byerly Turk is to be believed)

My filly has one white sock and is chestnut! What a combination. lol

Can't say i've had the urge to sniff one:bounce:

My youngster has as far as i can see two white socks, but three white feet. Someone did tell me though that when she loses her winter coat, she'll grow the other sock:unsure: So i await for that to happen, thought foals chose their socks upon birth but mine may fancy a trip to M&S.
