Had a practise session today for our test on Sunday and let's just say he was rather full of beans resulting in a couple of huge bucks and trying to take a hold in the canter work. He is normally cheeky but generally sensible to school but take him out of his comfort zone into a new environment he becomes tense and spooky so not exactly in the best frame of mind for dressage. Anyway i was in the local tackshop and saw the magic calmer so spoke to the woman behind the counter who said it would be ideal for my horse and is probably the most popular calmer they sell to dressage riders so I brought some. Have any of you tried it and if you did what was the results of using it? From what i've found via google some say it's a waste of time, others that it's the best thing since sliced bread but there was one person that said it was so effective on their horse that they had to withdraw from their competition as the horse was staggering and it had a strong sedative effect.

Not the syringe, but the powder. I stopped it because, with my lad, it seemed to mask the initial warning signs & so he went from comparatively calm to explosion in one step - not an improvement! But he's spent most of his life being "special" so this probably isn't the most reliable review.

I use the powder for my boy, he would have been very pushy, bolshy on the ground and also had a trick of dropping the shoulder and turning very sharply to try and unseat you, but that has all stopped now, it was my vet who suggested it for him and he is definitely a lot more calmer and better behaved, I also give it to my wee old pony but only a small amount as I think they don't enough magnesium from their hay and grass?

We used the syring for Charlie for travelling training - worked a treat, we bought a syrynge and get 1ltr bottle and just use it for travelling or if hes being extra bolshy - hes a prat with his boots at the moment but working him through it rather than use it to take edge off as hes just been naughty he's not scared.

What's in it? Is it allowed in competition? I usually feel if its available off the shelf its not going to contain anything much.

I feed EA Magnitude just because our grazing is likely lacking in this area. It makes not one iota of difference to her. She is still skittish, spooky and bendy out hacking. But, it might be helping her ability to think about things, who knows.

it contains magnesium is totally legal to use. I had my boy on a calmer through winter when he had no access to grazing and aparantly our grazing is lacking in it so hoping it will help.

bit late now eml as I've already used it lol. Not 100% convinced it made a huge difference. He was still spooky in our first test but still came 4th and then came 5th in our next class but against some tough competition and he was alot more relaxed in that one.
