What size is your stable, (feet please for us oldies!) and what size is your horse? Would you rather have it bigger, could you cope with it smaller.... etc!
12' x 12', horse is a 16hh TB, I only use it for tacking up (and in theory, emergencies). I could cope with it a bit smaller and would gain much from it being bigger. After not having one (it was only built last year), I love having one.
About 18 x 18, for a 14hh fell pony. Love the size as it means she can wander round. I hate to see horses in small stables.
Currently have mats over 2/3rds of stable and shavings on one half of the mats which seems to be working fine - and not too expensive - 1 1/2 bales of shaving per week on average.
13' X 13' and i have a 13hh, 15.1hh and 16hh.
I would prefer it a bit bigger for my 16hh-er, I don't i could cope with the stables and smaller because they would drag their bedding into their hay
10x16 (odd size - they are in a converted barn). The door is 10' wide - so they can see out well - and have lots of space. Molly is 14.2hh
I'd be happy with 12x12 min, bigger would be fine too. Ideally Molly would live out and have a stable for emergencies etc only - if that was the case then slightly smaller than 12x12 would be ok - we'd sacrifice stable size for turnout
The two stone-built boxes are 14 x 11.5. One is empty and one has Trigger in (39" Shetland - it's like a palace for him!) .. Stan's is a temp indoor jobby until we have a shift about of stuff once they are out 24/7 again, so it's a wierd size - 18 x 12.. the other box in that barn is 17 x 12..
When that barn is re-done it'll have one smaller box only in for Trigger prob 10 x 10 and a tack room + hay area instead
ETA - I'm happy with the sizes although Trigger is swamped in his..
12' X 18' stables for a 15.3, a 15.2 and a 15.1.
Could open the adjoining sides to make them into one large stable, which may consider if weather restricts turnout this year.
Smallest stable they've had was 10x12,certainly wouldn't want any smaller.
I figure about 12x12-dunno, never checked. I'd love a bigger one, but he's often out and I have a back section for feed bins etc-superbly useful, except he can get his head over the top and dribbled quite spectacularly down my back as I was making his tea today!
LOL!!! Beau is a legend!! I keep my tack boxes and rug trunk in the front of my stable out the way of Q but he did manage to open it one night and eat his reins, then spit them out then stomp on them then pull everything else out the box then stand there looking V. sheepish!!
12x24... easily! Could split it in half and still have plenty of room! Nelson is 15.3ish and has a bit of a trec to his bed from his hay but as he is on box rest at the moment its ideal.
I have to admit though, it is expensive to maintain and hard to keep as nelson forgets to pick his feet up so shavings go EVERYWHERE!
