The new rider mommies thread

I'm quite pleased with my weight I put on 2 stone and I had a huge baby and too much fluid, now I'm 3lbs lighter than I was pre-pregnancy but I've been working out in the gym as well as riding. I go on holiday in 3 weeks so have been trying really hard to get into some kind of decent shape, although round my belly button is loose and gets tucked in my trousers - still have hopes that'll go.

have you had your postnatal check yet? if you had a big baby it could be that your stomach muscles have seperated ( mine did with baby no 2 as he was 9lb 9oz and i'm 5ft. ) my gp gave me a membership to a local gym free of charge and they worked out special exercises to help get it back quicker. i got told swimming helps too (and good excuse to take baby swimming, no longer need to wait til after jabs)

hope you have a lovely time on holiday though:) i've just come back from holiday and i must admit the change of scenery/rest was lovely:)

Hi, how do you all manage the kids and horses thing???? The thought of having to give up the horses is unbearable, but also want to have kids. Have a few non horsey friends with kids and they dont think you can have both): Husband does'nt really understand.

Time management, organisation and routine are the key for me:)
I have four horses and three children ( with number four due in four weeks) I don't find it difficult to manage, the fact your friends with kids are non-horsey speaks volumes:rolleyes:

If you want something enough you will find ways to manage, over the winter months I would go to the yard after the school run and muck out, do the nursery run and go back to the yard with the youngest asleep in the car, sometimes I could ride in the school lunge or put one in the horse walker, then bring in,feed and back for the school/nursery pick-up.
It is quite a hectic life and I never stop, so not for the faint hearted but I wouldn't change my children or my horses:D

It also helps that I have a fantastic husband who supports me 100% and gives me plenty of time for me to spend with my horses, as well as never complaining about the ever spiralling costs:rolleyes:

this is pretty much how i cope except with 4 children (no 5 on the way) and 2 ponies. Biggest god send i have is that the ponies are kept 5 mins walk from the school and 10mins walk from my house and they can live out although i do have stables. i don't drive which makes life harder though.

my hubby isn't the best as he doesn't like horses much but does understand its my hobby and knows life is nicer for him if i have my ponies as then he can do some things he likes doing (such as playing computer games a LOT;))

My husband is horsey too so we share it all 50/50 and since we also share our riding cob he still gets worked when I am pregnant (that makes me sound like a brood mare :D this is actually only my second pregnancy and we are planning only the two kids so this should be the last one - yay will actually be able to plan horsey things well in advance!!).

God, Im so miserable.

Had plans to bring my cob back into work this summer and then I find out im pregnant with my 2nd baby.

Im 3 months gone now and Im still feeling tired and sick.

I still havent managed to get her back in work because I feel so terrible.

sorry to hear your having a rough time, i did too in this pregnancy until i hit 20 weeks, hopefully you'll start feeling better soon:)

ask your doctor but sometimes taking zinc can help morning sickness/tiredness etc. or a prenatal supplement (i just took zinc as couldn't keep a prenatal multivitamin down.

Redcedar has THE cutest baby ever :D

*blushes*

Just found this. Can we please add Alexander to the list? He was born on the 13th of march 08 and weighed 7lbs 4 and was a month early.

We had some major cardic issues with him in utero leading to me being in hospital for 10 days on strong cardio drugs to drop he heart beat from the 230s that it was running at!! After the 10 days they decided to ECS me.

Alex was born after a bit of a nightmare c sec. ~In the 1st hour of life he was cardioverted(heart stopped and restarted) and ventilated in neonatal ICU. He spent another 2 weeks inthe ICU and then came home.

It has been a rocky start but now he is healthy and happy. At 12 weeks he weighs 14lbs 6.5 and loves the horses. Can't say that Max likes him though lol He just huffs in Alex's face and wanders off ( you can almost her him muttering " blinking kids making noise, disturbing me peace, huff ") The other 2 like him and he has "sat" on Guinness allready :)

Yeah fizzy drinks is good for morning sickness, Also accupressure bands were my lifesaver! I didn't have morning sickness....I has all day sickness with both of mine!

As for the 'how do you cope' question...Not sure actually! I am a single mum with a part time job and full time at university. I couldn't do it if they did not live out! But really you just find time...well I do anyway! The hardest time was when Kazz was v. unwell and needing IV antibiotics 3x a day and was on complete box rest. My kids were 1 and 4 when that happened and that was HARD!

Esther, you can add my children to the list when you get time...:)
