pregnancy and horses

Hi
I rode throughout my last pregnancy (right up to the date delivered) although I did not know i was expecting !!!

Strange I know but was under GP as I have polycystic overy syndrome and stupid GP had mis diagnosed cyst of a baby!!!

Had he not prescribed so many pain killers the baby might have moved and I would have known she was there.

Anyway back to the point I have had three children in all and the 1st two I gave up rideing whilst pregnant both deliveries were very long and complicated whilst the last little surprise just popped out literally, anyway my point is you should do what you are comfortable doing don't take any unnecessary risks and just relax and enjoy - believe me you will appreciate your horsey time one the little ones arrives :)

I know what you mean lol, Ive just started riding again after a few years off, with the horse, Leo and my full time job you know i'm going to be a busy bee :p

hiya
good for you getting back into riding!
i work part time (well if 25 hrs a week is part time anyway). my toddler had to come out to my 2 horses yesterday with me as farrier was coming so he had to sit in pushchair in tackroom & watch. He was a star, wish it was like that everytime
i do enjoy being kept busy, must be a bit mad huh?
Enjoy the riding... :D

It is good though to know that it is possible to juggle kids and horses :) I used to do farrier visits with Annie in the back carrier, they are such torture contraptions, I am glad she is a bit older now!

On Tuesday afternoon my OH had gone to a concert in london so my son had to come out with me to feed my horses. I poo-pick my field daily (don't know why, i just HAVE to do it). So he watched me do that. He seemed in a really mellow mood so i decided to school one of the horses i work on there. At first my son was a bit unimpressed & started to grumble but after 5 mins of watching he was amused (i did wave to him as i passed him which helped!)
Oh, my son was secure in the tackroom with a bar across to keep the horses out before anybody has visions of a pushchair sitting in the middle of the school:D
The horse worked well & son was entertained. If only it could always be that way...

Hiya, glad to see a mum's section!
not allowed to ride in this pregnancy due to spd, but my lovely pony doesn't like me riding whilst preg anyway!
at 7 1/2 months preg with my first we had an accident, winston tripped and he nearly killed himself trying to protect me and my bump. hospital staff couldnt understand why i was screaming that i needed a vet not a doctor lol.
since then he will try every trick in the book to stop me getting on!
how do you put a price on a horse willing to risk it's life for you?

New mummy but not the human sort!

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. My names Carla I have two boys one aged 3 and the other 21 months.

I have been waiting to get my own horse for a few years now and finally picked up my Welsh part bred this morning. Luckily my youngest baby fell asleep in the car following the lorry to the new yard so I only had one child and one filly to contend with! She jumped out the box like a nerves kangaroo and I just thought what have I done. After settling down with a juicy hay net and a syringe of wormer she seems much quieter so the real fun starts tomorrow. Feeling bit lonely, I've spent the best part of a day hanging over her stable door.

I've got so many thoughts at the moment I just got my self in a pickle and don't know where to start, its just all a bit over whelming for both of us. Did anyone else feel like this when they got thier first horse?

Sorry for the story!!!!

Hi & welcome carla7
Yes, when i first had my mare i felt exactly the same. Didn't have my son then so it was probably easier than it is for you with 2 children! :)
I'm sure once your horse settles it'll all fall into place. NR is always a good place to come for advice etc.
Enjoy her :D
