That is rather insulting, are you suggesting that everyone who is anti hunting must be ignorant? People have different opinions and will never all agree, personally I think the biggest preditor/vermin problem that we have is the humans, but hey I like animals far more than I like humans. Some people who support hunting and some who are anti will be ignorant about the ins and outs, however many will be well very aware, will live in the countryside, will have weighed up the pros and cons in thier minds before reaching a conclusion that they can truley believe in.
Also I am sure that people do feel for those that lost their livelyhood, it has happened to my parents, not hunt related actually was partly to blame for my mothers death. But no matter what happens there will always be a trade off, increase in buying online, local shops close etc, most changes will have a negative impact on someone. Just because people do not support hunting does not mean that they don't feel for these people but they can't support their way of life.
I do agree that we should all agree to disagree and that insulting 'groups' of people, or trying to judge everyone but one standard is going to lead to rainsed hackles and arguments.
Well, last i heard, people keep cows, sheep, pigs, goats, camels, buffalo, bison, rabbits, horses, guinea-pigs, yaks and reindeer TO EAT (and that's just a selection of the mammals), so why not keep deer? Venison is very tasty - even though Bambi is one of my favourite films.
There are loads of deer farms around here, most restaurants offer venison on the menu, I find it a bit too rich but I am fussy and not really very keen on meat

it was a generalisation, not aimed at MOST people and certainally not "groups", and im sorry, its post like this that will get a good thread closed, it becomes "personal" theres been a few heated moments, but nout that has been affensive, maybe someting more constuctive is a better post, im for one not trying to have an argument, hence why i havnt pushed that hunting is fab on others, BUT, so many people dont know what else goes on, especially the younger members, many will think hunt = fox. not about the services, or the people behind the hunts, a good honest and open debate from all sides and walks of life is educating.

ive had wild boar, it was nice, but to rich for me, although like beef, i found it almost sickening,
Liz, i used to live on a red deer farm, the deer were bred, not for meat, (well maybe) but often for the stags head, a decent stags head with antlers can fetch upto 20k.. and yes im serious, and i actuallly think thats morally wrong

off with your head! na am joking (unless you have horns) ive not ment to insult anybody, my posts were about many folk, normally city dwellers that really do have no idea, as i said in a post pages ago, most people have never attended a meet, even for all the horsie people that are anti hunting, you should, your be lucky to see a fox,. its so much these days about a gathering, last hunt i went on was kids day, ment to be slower (was it hell) and i ended up looking after a little girl out for her 1st hunt, see a fox? i was lucky if i saw her pony, total nutter!
Think my o/h would say I get horns when I get strated on something

I have been on a hunt, and our local very rarely caught anything, in fact even with filling in dens and sets they hardly ever saw a fox, and I can see why people enjoy hunting the adrenilin rush etc. Not for me though because I am the type of person who spent a whole night worrying about a butterfly thats wings were making a funny noise and debating whether or not to put ot out its misery, have done so for rabbits left on the road half squashed etc
However they are a few humans I would happily hunt, child molestors ect but o/h keeps telling me I am weird and I am not meant to like animals more than humans but can't help how I feel
Oh and I think my pony would have a heart attack if he went out hunting now he is almost 23 and not very fit... also (hang head in shame) last time when hacking we ended up with the hunt (ponies choice not ours) he got down with a big sigh and fart to have a roll in front of the elite of the hunt who looked utterly horrified, whilst I, in my dirty stable clothes, felt utterly mortified esp as the begger wouldn't get up but just lay there

classic, our hunt tends to go, meet at pub, (the poachers, odd when we have a village pub called the huntsman) lanes for about a mile the field, first time out on my last horse (was hes 1st time) i thought fab mega step hill will gallop knacker him out and settle him down, oh no, up the hill stoped, next field flatish, im at the front of the field, horse going faster, master looks across and says "steady up " i say through clench teeth.. im trying! metal gate looming, me thinks o god, no chance of stopping, so i turn to a field of about 70 + and shout TURNING and in good old hunting seat way, 2 hands on one rein try and turn, fab.. but it was down a vertical hill, finally re join hunt to some woman with her bum in her hand, the only thing i could say was well i didnt bring you down! i did learn never to hunt that horse without a double bridle and gloves, he was a nutter,

I am glad that everyone agreed to disagree after I fell into my bed! I do like the idea of hunting child molestors though, surely that would be an excellent compromise for all involved and really put the frightners on a very wrong section of our society!
Why not drag hunt.....Dont see the point
To me it just seems a good old jolly round farmers fields,if i wanted that i would take my horse round a x country trail.
I liked to see hounds work when we were in hunt service.
