What was your 'mid life crisis'?

Does everyone have a mid-life crisis? By this, I mean doing something that will completely change your life.

I am currently having a career change and am 2 years through my 5 years training to be a psychotherapist. The training steps up in September when I start my MSc. It is such a huge change involving spending lots of money on course fees and my own therapy, and leaving less money for the family and for horses. I'm struggling a bit with the enormity of the changes going on. I know that it is absolutely what I want to do and my family are 100% behind me, but at the same time I am terrified. I am ridiculously upset with the loss of my lorry which is just a symbol of the loss of my old life with Ben which I am desperately trying to cling to.

It got me wondering, have any other New Rider friends been through this? What was your 'mid-life crisis'? How did it feel for you?

I had mine when I was 60 - I bought Scully - I remember going into the bank to withdraw the cash and the cashier asked what it was for - " a horse " I said... :)

I had exactly the same conversation when I bought Ben. I withdrew £3,500, told the cashier I was buying my dream horse, and walked off with the cash in my pocket. I have no idea why I didn't just bank transfer the money! I guess 8 years ago we dealt more in cash then we do now.

Not so much a mid life crisis as a change of way of life? Moved to another country - hehehee, (but didn't need a passport!!). It was a massive step and huge gamble in more ways than one. But it all paid off and we love it. Been here three years and still have to pinch myself, because it's everything we've ever wanted and more. Love it and would say to anyone wanting a life change or having a mid life crisis, just get on and enjoy it! Go with the flow :)

Agree - we are planning to go to Italy for at least part of each year - maybe next year :)

But we do miss the stories about you hiding in the tack room to get away from your mother-in-law!

Oooh the talk of noses made me remember my real mid life biggie! I had a nose job at 52. I hated my nose for as ling as I could remember, used to try and never sit side on to people etc. Would cover it at school and so on. I never had the nerve to have it done, but took the plunge late in life. I was terrified when I went in, but it was one of the best things I ever did.
