Most horses are at height by 4/5yo, they tend to just mature into their bodies after that. I think the doesn't stop growing thing refers to when growth plates fuse, but pretty sure those are all done by 6yo.

I did honestly think he might of finished growing to be fair. Hes the 1st gypsy cob iv owned iv had a few horses over the yrs but never a cob so was unsure
It wasnt until I was talking to someone and they said cobs grow till 8/9yo so was slightly curious as to what other peoples opinions were ....I know like you say that most horses stop growing around the 4/5 yo mark but thanks all anyway and hes perfect I'm looking forward to riding him I'm 5ft6 slightly worried I'll be a bit tall on him but that wont stop us

At that age and height I'd be surprised if he gets much, if any, taller but he may still fill out a bit and work will put some muscle on him which will make him look bigger.

Height wise I think you'll be surprised how you look on him. He looks wide enough and deep enough to easily take up your leg, and with muscle and self carriage developed from correct work I bet no-one will question your height.

I'm 5'7 and have ridden a 13h Fell that took up my leg better than my 15h Arab. I've also ridden a 13h Trad, not as well built as yours, but she felt body-wise just the same size as my Arab, just that her legs were shorter, fatter and hairier lol.

I'm sure @carthorse is right, although not sure how she knows you need to develop muscle and self carriage :p :D:D

Love him! Have a 13hh Irish cob, and he feels bigger to ride than my forester, who was just shy of 14hh. I got my forester at 3 rising 4, and don't think he grew that much - had him til he passed at 30

Growing to me means mentally emotionally and physically.
I saw more of a transformation mentally with mine than physically.

Its taken her until she was at least 9 to grow up mentally and stop the drama queen, the world is going to end behaviour! The spin if you get one can be in slow motion, if she does do one and go you can at least resettle and carry on as oppose to the whole ride being ott reactions.
I can get her focus back if it's drifted - again.

She still let's you know exactly what she thinks of you, but she doesnt tend to answer back so often or bite you if you correct her attitude. Though she can and she will bite!

Physically she changed shape a lot with using muscles and building muscles, learning to carry herself, use herself and develop her own frame. It gives the impression she grew upwards but she didn't.
She was powerful before the muscle, she's definately powerful now and she's grown up not to use that to her advantage anymore!

He's a proper little tank, and I am sure that he will take your leg up just fine.

I particularly admire his parti-coloured mane!
He sure is and he knows it too
I think he will do too
I love his mane its gorgeous I was so tempted to hog him in the summer with all the hot weather but decided against it and so glad I did I love him with all his feather and a hairy chunky little monkey next summer I may clip him but will def not be hogging him or taking his feathers off

As we are clay soil I shorten the front of her feathers to the coronet in the winter. It also allows the hoof to dry.
I clip if I need to based on workload. But in summer I tend to plait the mane.

Eta, to be honest I can't see much difference between a 13hh cob and a 14hh cob. It's really just the leg length and wither that alters, the barrel frame is going to be same.

So glad you're keeping feathers and mane - they're too beautiful to lose!
