2019 Hacking/Riding Thread

The wind doesn't really bother me, and never worried Ramsey, or Hogan. But years ago, my friend and went out on a very windy day,(bit like this weekend), set off, nice long ride, horses were a bit fresh, but in a fun way. No problems going out, but when we turned for home, on the route that we'd just ridden, not half an hour before, a tree had come down, right across the track. Made us pause, if we'd been a bit later, or a bit earlier....... But hey ho, who wants to die in bed? o_O

Got out early this morning. Big brave boy went past even more builders rubble bags. We had a battle down the lane - he pulled the biggest branch of bracken, so I'm leaning over his head to the side, trying to get it off him, and he walks my head into a tree (not deliberately! I hope). God bless hats. He seems to be drawn to everything that's poisonous to him. Other than that, he did very well, especially when we met a girl exercising 7 (!) Beagle hounds. They came at us en masse, barking like crazy, and he never flinched, bless him. To give her her due, she apologised profusely, but it would have been a different story with some other horses. Brought my grandson (5) up later, to poo pick, and he has no fear of Hogan - worries me a bit, but probably a good thing. He earned £1, for half an hours work - please don't set child services onto me!:pScreenshot_20190812-201904_Gallery.jpg

On Friday we had a yard trip to the BS National Championships as YO was riding. I'd never been to anything other than riding club SJ before so that was fun to watch.

Saturday was very windy which normally sends Harvey wild. I went in to the school to just ride for a few minutes until he got too silly. When he then behaved I hadn't got a plan so we just did some canter circles and some polework.

Sunday was the Cotswold farm park fun ride. It was raining when we left the yard, but dry when we arrived. I rode with a lady a met on a riding camp a few years ago and she had brought a friend. We had a really nice ride and despite some ominous rumbles stayed dry. Harvey behaved well and we even popped a few jumps. He lost a front shoe near the end so we only walked from that point. Just after we got back there was torrential rain, and driving home was a bit trying. My final job was to poo pick the foster ponies - I arrived to find they had taken the fence down :(

Harvey doesn't like to come out until he has checked out where he is

Oh the little beasts taking that fence down!!! Just what you didn't need!
Lovely pics otherwise - love how Harvey is sussing out his surroundings before coming out of the lorry!

Having a heavy week - 3 grandchildren for 4 days, one teething, one bored and one exhausted back from holiday. Took Hogan out at 4.30, mooched about, loved every minute. Stood at the gate when we got back - who needs valium when you've got this?Screenshot_20190815-184359_Gallery.jpg

A quiet weekend for us.
In the week the foster ponies broke into the storage areas and opened the haylage bale we were saving for Winter, so first job was to electrify their fence. After poo picking, grooming x2, cleaning water buckets x2 and sweeping the yard it was off to do my own jobs. As it was a bit windy I opted fro a nice hack around the bridleway with Harvey.

Sunday - another day another broken fence. This time the foster ponies had broken into the muck heap and trashed the fence (the fences aren't very good - so we just have to do our best :) )
I had a flat/polework lesson with YO ending with starting to learn to change canter lead (A bit advance for me as I can never tell which leg I am on anyway!) YO then taught our weekend groom but halfway through was a bit unwell so the other liveries carted her off to hospital (there is a bit more to this but not for a public forum) while I supervised the end of the lesson and finished off the yard jobs. The grooms aren't allowed to ride on their own and liveries are encouraged not to for safety.

Someone looking very guilty in an area that used to be fenced!

Not sure if I have posted this before. This is Harvey 30 minutes after being put in his stable with a neat pile of hay (in the other corner)

I am sooooo pleased to see you on here again! Looking forward to catching up and hearing all about your summer etc etc.

My first ride back on Melody and I went to the yard and girls persuaded me to hack out eekkks first time from the new yard......on my first day back riding.... nothing like dropping me in at the deep end. We waited till it cooled down and then tacked up and set off. Lunan leading the way Shakira on her first time out on the road being led out inhand..... and finally Melody and me. Down the road....... 200 yards then about and hour down the bridle way and back there was a gorgeous sunset while we were out. We turned round after about an half an hour and set off back......Shakira was super not worried at all to be out the safety of her field....Melody was superstar.....Whooooo hooooo my first time back in the saddle and I went into the big scarey world outside my yard :) proud of myself and Melody.

Yaye! I haven't forgotten it all :p :D Mr T came and watched and jogged my memory;)
Zi was ace - only did a few minutes on each rein as it's a long time since he's done much - but he was grand. Lol he sniffed the floor twice and I almost thought he was going to roll:eek:(which wouldn't have been the end of the world, but not ideal). Anyway onwards and upwards. I reckon we'll get him into a good routine which hopefully will spur me on more to get on board - at the moment it's so sporadic, no wonder I quickly lose mojo.

Oh I see that and get all gooey and patriotically Scottish! Then I remember the weather.. . Still miss the scenery though, (Rannoch, not Glasgow!)

Had a bit of a meander on Saturday - the heats making me sluggish, never mind Hogan! So hot, even at 7.45. Out again today, early, and really went for it. Totally different route, cows only about 40 feet away. Almost bottled it, then mentally slapped myself round the chops, and on we went. He was a total star - even trotted up well as we got past them. Continued past the normal route home and again my little trooper was great. Came across an older lady on her knees - she'd taken a tumble, walking her dog, and Hogan stood beautifully while I checked she was ok. Trotted most of the way home, and he spooks at a trailing piece of bracken - sigh - still, the good outweighed the bad. :) There's no doubt about it - if I'm in the zone, and really commit to what I want him to do, he's much much better.(She said, confidently. ;) )

Wow you really do get the heat! I don't miss it really. What a good lad then standing nicely whilst you checked the lady.

When I got back in the car at 9.15, it was 28° - not nice. I was drenched after going up in the afternoon to do my jobs. Luckily it doesn't seem to bother Hogan, - Ramsey hated the summer, and thrived in the frosty cold!

I don't seem to get the updates sigh not sure whats changed.
Ill have to go back up a bunch of pages to catch up on everyones fun.
The weather has finally started to change slowly.
More cooler days rather than steamy hot.
There is a bit of a crisp feel in a lot of the mornings and woo hoo
to wearing a sweat shirt.
I have been able to use my little cavaletti pen much more and I even rode during the day on the road on a sunny day cause the sun that day was not so blairing horrible hot...
I am really looking foreward to the next set of challenges for September.
the weather will be better and I went to the meeting a week ago sat and there will be a few changes which will be awesome for the last one this year and starting next year.
This year the last set.. instead of a set here to there to there pattern.
Every class will get a LIST of the obstacles. You set them up any order any place you want and ride them in any configuration. Just the actual riding of the obstacle will be judged.
That will work out so much better and a couple places have lots of compeditors on many different clases all lessoning and at the meeting the woman said it was
hard there is not enough room for multiple multiple coruses to be set and some
did have the same obstacle crossover but but at oposite ends of the arena.
Im really REALLY thrilled for this change caus i found it hard to try to set my 3 up
and had kind of crammed too much.
Next year there will be an over 50 woo hoo.
Ground bees have been really bad sigh. I have gotten stung twice in areas i had
play just the prior day in my little rope rd pen and one of my large ones on the hill.
I had started to use the flag so im NOT TOTALLY sure if the swoosh of the flag
did not set them off cause both times Sonny was fine in both places prior to me
starting to do liberty.
EEE has been quite bad just over the border in MA. 4 humans have gotten it one has died and 2 horses have contracted it in rather close border towns.
I vaccinate for everything but there is no human vaccine or treatment.
Many places have stopped all evening activity and closed all parks etc from dusk to dawn.
The virus has been found now in southern RI. but thankfully no human or horse cases yet.
This weekend is Labor Day weekend with one of the BIGGEST horse shows in the area with 229 classes at the Woodstock fair.
Its such close quarters in past years there have been some outbreaks of things.
People come from far and wide.
Im looking foreward to much more riding and super play as the weather becomes
more fall like.

l the weather continues to become more fall like.99620
