And we’re there...

Took Monkey for a gentle ride tonight, just a couple of miles as he did a lot on Monday, and I’ve got a long weekend and there’s good weather forecast so it will be a busy weekend again!IMG_1107.jpeg
@newforest thread about new bridles motivated me to try the one I’d bought and a different bit too. I think I need to order a bigger browband when I order the throat lash (I def don’t trust it without one, it was too easy to take off without undoing anything).

Is that the same as mine but as a cavesson?
I have the same bit and so far she stays on snaffle setting. But if we need a little reminder of her manners if I happen to misjudge her season,I can drop it down.

Not sure, mine’s a horsemanship saddlery one. The Wilkie I just wanted a little more oomph for when we’re out in more company, he’s generally super light in the hand but when he gets overwhelmed he can forget everything.

Sid's anatomical bridle has a throat lash. But when we come home I don't need to undo anything to lift it over his ears, the whole thing just lifts off! I think it's because he has a broad forehead, the bridle is big there so it just isn't very sticky. Fortunately he's not a head chucker.

My friend trailered over today and we went for a short bimble in the sunshine, lots of chatting as she’s not been over since October.

I lunged Monkey last night as I was late getting out of work, and he looked a bit off, I wouldn't say stiff, and nothing obvious but not quite as flowing as normal. I continued thinking he might stretch it out, but when we got to some canter he was doing a double hind foot stride to set off, so some obviously not quite right.
Annoying thing is I have been trying to pin down my osteo for an appointment for the last month anyway, just for a check up. Luckily I do have the saddler booked for Tuesday. I think I will give him a few days bute and see if I can get someone else to look at his back before the saddler is here 🤞 but that may be a long shot!

8am yesterday I got a call from YO to say that Monkey was not in the paddock but again on the long grass down by the river. When I got there all fences were intact so I’m guessing he’d popped over it, so he’s obviously not feeling too bad!

My osteo messaged me yesterday to say she could come and see him (right then), I had to remind her that she had to give me warning so I could get time off work! So she’s now coming on Sunday morning.

Out for a walk today instead of riding, Monkey was jittery going out but actually spooked less than Jess!

Picture over my shoulder shows he was actually half asleep when following 🤣

Had a slight incident when I was getting ready to bath him when we got back, id left him tied to the trailer, turned my back for 2 minutes to turn the hose on and he freaked out at something until he broke loose. After his bath I tied him back there while I did Jess and he was fine, no clue what it was over but no lasting effects hopefully 🤞

Waiting for the osteo this morning

He wasn’t impressed that I called him for a picture 🤣
Osteo said he had a few tight spots but nothing too serious, suggested getting saddle checked as she thought it has been twisting, which is exactly why I had already booked it. Hopefully we’ll be back cooking after Tuesday 🤞

Saddler out this afternoon and it needed a top up of flocking (it was completely reflocked last summer so it had settled).

Then off for a quick ride in drizzly rain, but it was quite pleasant nonetheless.

His colour changes so much winter to summer, he’s pale in winter, including pale leg hair, that almost completely disappears in the summer when he’s much darker all over. The last of the leg hair is just hanging on still.

I could have throttled Monkey tonight, if fences aren’t on he occasionally climbs or jumps over them, my fault, I should power them but it’s difficult to get power to the field they’re in currently. I don’t mind occasional escapes (only ever within the perimeter, just in a different paddock to where I leave him) but it’s been daily for the last 5 days and twice today! So I have powered up a paddock half the size of what they had as I can only get the power to the middle of the field.
I swear he knows, they’re not ticking and the energiser is 1/4 mile away in the barn, but he can sense it’s on, he walked the entire perimeter checking!

That's what happens to mine when she's in season. It will be interesting to see what this year brings as she might have done a slight system reset after being on the regumate.

I love his colour.
Mine is the opposite, light in winter, almost black in summer. Actually to the point that people think I have a new horse.
