Chunky Monkey gang

Very white out here this morning. I let the dog out and nearly slipped on the wet snow. Its currently raining so having a lazy morning while it thaws some before i venture out to feed the menagerie.

Mum is being reviewed tomorrow with the possibility to be sent home. Im told they should be liasing with me before she comes home as a plan needs to be put in place. Im apprehensive about her coming home as her mobility has decreased. So im not sure how she or i will cope. However her legs, bar a newly developed foot ulcer and some blisters are the best theyve been in over 6 months.
She should never have been sent home when she was omitted to hospital in June. Nor should she have been dissed by the practice nurses last March. I really think if theyd have done back in June what shes been through in the last month she would have saved the NHS £1000s. My mum would also have been spared all the pain and discomfort. We will never know for sure and we will just take each day as it comes going forward.
They say there is help out there going forward but all i seem to have experienced in the last 6 months is people coming to the house and ticking a few boxes. Reality is that i now have to source and fund 90% of the help myself.
I just hope that the government gets there act together soon and better systems are put in place for care of the elderly.

I'm glad she's so much improved that they're looking at sending her home BUT be sure to have a care package and any changes to house/furniture needed in place before she comes out because it seems once someone is home it'sa lot harder to get it done.

Someone should be visiting to assess what needs to be altered/adapted at home before she comes home.
Plus a care package should be in place before.

Gosh almost two months since i updated. Where has time gone.

Mum is still in hospital. We are almost back to where we were when she was omitted to hospital in November. Her legs suddenly went red and next thing her torso has started leaking badly again. Shes back on antibiotics for a chest infection and her legs. Doctor says its cellulitis.

Ive been ill on and off myself since xmas. So i have pretty much limited my hospital visits incase i took my bugs in. Plus me and my brother had a massive arguement. So as well as the bugs i had, ive been coping with stress and anxiety.

Animals are all fine. 3 weeks till lambing. Girls are all looking plump. Frank was a little lame this week so i got help to hold him yesterday so i could look and treat. Foot looks fine but i found he had what looks like mud fever sores up the legs.
Im planning on mucking out this weekend so im well ahead with being organised for lambing.

I saw a horse advert for a sharer required local. But the person never came back to me. I am missing the riding again currently now the nights are lighter and sun is at last shining. Its making me want to ride.
Ive asked if i would be able to have a sit on a horse at one of the places i work. They run a riding school both western and english. I dont want a lesson but just to have a little sit on for 10 minutes to keep my confidence up i think would be good. So at some point i might be able to say ive ridden.
Buying is on hold currently. Ive had to dip into my savings for recent car repairs and additional bills. So i need to save up.

I was thinking about you earlier today and wondering how things were going for you. Sorry your mum is still poorly and you've been ill as well. I know what you mean about the better weather and wanting to ride, its very inspiring is the sunshine! I hope you can have a sit on something soon - it's great just to keep your hand in, there's just something about it and I bet you will feel lots better about everything afterwards. I know I do - no matter what else is going on in life, just a short ride puts things right and I carry that wonderful feeling around with me, it helps so much.

Well at least the end of the week has gone better than the beginning after getting the rtv stuck in the field. Its been hard work taking 4 bales if gay out to the field on the barrow. Had to wait till friday when it was frosty. Then i just drove straight out.
This morning whilst it was frosty i took full advantage and did the mucking out. Just got a couple of barrow loads to scrap out when i take the pressure washer down next week.
I took Quin with me and wondered if hed settle given there are two lambs floating around in the 5 acre field and im driving in and out with the muck from the yard So no way to stop him being in the field. Anyway after a few times calling him back i left him to it. He went down the field 200 metres away from me and layed by the double gates where he had full view of the two lambs who were right in the bottom corner. Well that dog never moved for a full 1½ hours. He just watched his sheep. Came back when i called. So pleased.

Ive then gone mad as i needed to clean my sh!tty boots off and got half the lawns mowed. First mow of the season. I miss my mobile lawn mowers. The horses would have happily mowed that tasty grass. Im going to have to do all the lawns myself this year. They saved me so much effort and fuel. Was nice to have them wa b dering round the house. Plus the pooped on the lawn which i just put straight on the veg plot. So a total win win.

Spring is definitely on its way. Finding it too hot wearing my work coat in the morning. I get back sweating.
The cows have been wasting hay. So they went down to 4 a day last week. Yesterday down to 3. They looked content this morning, some even laying down. The next few days paddocks get some sun and shelter from trees so a nice bite of fresh grass coming through. Mon/Tues there down to 2½ bales and Weds just 2. Its already out in the paddocks.
By mid April i hope i will be able to stop feeding them. So i will have nearly 500 bales of hay left in the barn to sell.

The update on mum is not good. Was summonsed to the hospital this week for a discussion about her health. They are now suggesting she goes into care. It didnt suprise me. They sort one thing and another thing flares up. Her organs are steadily failing. I got a call yesterday morning from her because on Friday night they wanted to send her back to the acute hospital because her bloods are heading the wrong way. She refused to go. Quite frankly i dont blame her considering what happened the last time they shipped her back to acute on the friday night.
I also think theres something going on because shes been at the community hospital almost 3 months. Now theres a sudden rush to get her out of there. Im being asked to make a dicision by monday as well as to whether mum goes into respite care. Its mums decision really as she has capacity to understand. Im not sure why the rush!
Shes been on multiple antibiotics for infections the last month and still is, so surely if shes that sick they shouldnt be trying to ship her elsewhere hust now. I can only think they want to wash there hands and send her to care so she can die.

Sounds like a really difficult situation for you. Perhaps the rush is just that there is a suitable place available now and it could be offered to someone else if they wait too long? I understand your concern though given how they bounced her around last time. Hopefully they can give you some answers tomorrow.

Ewes are back home. Awaiting the new arrivals. 2 due this week 7 or 8 next week. Had to put Frank in with the two shearlings and he has gone back to my neighbours field with them. Just hope he settles. He was desperate to floor me when i got everyone in the yard. So i decided he couldnt stay with the lambing ewes. I cant afford to be flattened, black or blue, or have my legs broken. He really is dangerous. Ive spoken with his owners about him going home. As the agreement was i keep him till March. Ive said if he settles and doesnt ram the fences he can stay, as i could potentially use him this autumn. But if hes a nuisance he goes home.

Mum has been very unwell again this week. Worried it was nearing the end given how awful she was 2 days ago. I spoke to her on the phone tonight and i was surprised she actually seemed much better. I actually could hold a conversation.

Frank sounds a bit of a handful! I can’t wait for some lamb pictures, 🤞🤞 it’s nice easy lambing all around.
Good to hear mum is having some better days.

If he's unsafe then I agree with you that he goes home, no-one wants to get hurt but you really can't afford to right now.

I'm so sorry to hear your mum is so unwell again, but good that she still has days when she's well enough to talk to you 🤗

317 had taken herself off to the bottom of the field this morning. We plodded her back up the field and into the shed.
She was protesting about being in but thank goodness she hadnt lambed at the bottom of the field. She was first to lamb last year and is first this year.
Ive been waiting all day and finally we have the first new arrival. This is only 10 minutes old. Yet to stand. I did have to give a bit of a pull as mum wasnt pushing. Just sitting here now and i can see the feet of a second bab about to pop out.

Glad your mum was well enough to talk. Vibes for both of you, it's hard.

No, this week is quiet. Ive only got 10 to lamb in total this year. 259 maybe due Friday. But ive got a 2nd date for her as well in a couple of weeks. It wasnt 3 weeks from the first marking which is odd, so im playing guessing games currently. Udder has dropped, just not full of milk yet. But if she fills with milk in the next 48hrs she will be this week. Shes huge size, so could be 3 lambs in there. I actually hope not.

I tailed 317 lambs this morning. Boy was she not happy. Wacked me in the leg when i had hold of her 1st lamb. When i went to get hold of the 2nd she did it again, hit her lamb instead and caught me on my wrist with her horns too. I will be black later i expect. So i had to steal lamb and get out the pen to tail, mummy was mortified and started hitting the gate. Calm was restored when she had both her lambs back. I think its fair to say shes bonded.
