December Chit Chat

It has gone pear shaped here but I managed a little session with Zi. It is going dark here already too. That's a good rainbow @newforest
Because of where the sun is this time of year I seem to get given rainbows after a good soaking.
I have moved her to the front paddock in prep for New Year. People will have fireworks and so she's in the happy paddock.

Does anyone else name their paddocks. I think I could with some effort.

I couldn’t swim until I was an adult, I never got lessons but Dad used to get cheap entry to our local baths with his job. I just used to cling to the side and try with a bit of help from my Dad. Fast forward to my having my own children and for some reason I could suddenly swim, only frogs legs but I can do many, many lengths quite comfortably and reasonably quickly, I also taught myself how to sink to the bottom and sit on the floor of the pool for up to 2 mins back then, can’t hold my breath that long now though.
I’ve learned to dive in too in latter years, although I think I look graceful I actually look like a baby elephant but it’s fun to try. Mr KR is a super swimmer, he used to swim competitively at county level when he was younger but he scares me when he disappears into to ocean and all I can see is his head getting smaller and smaller! But he always comes back 🤣
And honestly @Trewsers id move up there in a flash if Mr would get on board with the idea.

Lol yes I suppose in a way our paddocks do have names. The one behind the barn is the paddock of doom, cos it's where Storm managed to set her leg back months during recovery! It hasn't been used by her since then, I feel it is jinxed.
However, some of the others have names, we had the "maze" at one point.
The ones on the front field I generally just call "Golly's paddocks".
(Golly is her stable / pet name, she only gets called Storm if I'm cross!)

Yep we have had 2 or 3 named fields for years.

Since last year when we had our change of circumstances i started doing rotational grazing so split the fields down into paddocks. So now instead of 3 fields i have 20 something paddocks named. Ive been keeping a record of the moves on my phone calendar. 3 paddocks are still yet to be named, so they show blank but i will have to sort soon as i want to put all the data on a spreadsheet soon. Next year im going to sub divide all our top field paddocks even more during the summer.

Hoping that with the data it will enable me to manage the land better.

Sorry ive not been posting. Im been very poorly the last few weeks. Colds, migraines and pulled muscles, oh and bruising from an accident. Spent Christmas Day in bed with severe miragraine, but still had to go to work and do all the animals. Life has been crazy, juggling work, animals, weather and appointments.
Honestly no idea what day it is. Today ive worked monday and thursday jobs. Tomorrow im working monday, wednesday and friday jobs, plus have to fit in taking my mum to two appointments. Roll on new year for some normality.
Ive been checking in and wrote several replies, then for some reason i just couldnt be bothered to post them.

I missed you, wondered where you had gotten to. Sorry to hear you've been poorly. I hope things are getting better now?

That sounds rough @chunky monkey, hopefully it settles down now.

I have named paddocks, we have the road paddock, the front paddock, the back paddock and the sandpit (an area within the track). If I split them down into smaller chunks for spraying or seeding I tend to number them.
I might rename one the schooling paddock, drop myself some hints to do something productive with the space this Spring.

My relative received their package this morning, 16 days after it was posted.
So I am pleased it arrived even if it's a week late.
I havent looked to see if they are striking anymore.
Good that it finally arrived. So far nothing has been announced about strikes but I can imagine they will be 😕 I heard yesterday that the fire brigade are talking about strike action too now…. It feels like we’ve stepped into a Time Machine and gone back to the 70’s again.

We don't name the fields/paddocks, but all the stables are named after their long gone residents - Tansy's, Cassie's, Ramsey's, now there's just B and Hogan in theirs, so eventually I imagine new residents might be housed in Hogan's and B's stables. (If the barn doesn't fall down first)

Woo hoo we are starting out near 40 f
when I made coffee at 430 this am.
Consistently taking asprin seems to be helping my toes a lot.
I'm just glad they are heading In the right
Direction..

I'm sure there will be a lot of people being showcased on the news bitching that it will be near 50f with a little rain when the ball drops tomorrow night.

Too bad suck it up take an umbrella..
Its better than 0 degrees f. And a blizzard.

It sounds like we may stay mild for a few days..ILL.TAKE IT

Chloe's name plate (that my secret santa on here got me) will always be on the door leading to the byre. Lol but it's funny now cos Storm's nameplate is in Zi's box. Lol lol he just doesn't look like a Storm at all! And his name plate is on the cat barn - I will get that off and move it.
