In need of some encouraging words. My Misty Pony is now in his 5th week of his second bout of laminitis this year (He had last one in the hard frosty weather, was box rested for 2 months) This one was set of by hard dry ground. He had been doing so well, and I had got his bute down to 1 everyother day. I have been turning him out for half an hour a day this week. Today I let him have a bit longer out, but he wandered back to the yard and put himslef back in stable. LAME!!!
I think he has an abcesses in one or both front feet, he keeps lieing down which he never usually does. when he does stand, he is shifting his weight. Feet are hot and he has pulses. Respiratory rate is up. He wouldn't eat his feed with bute, so I had to syringe it to him instead. All in all a very sad pony.
Will have to get vet out tomorrow.
So sad. I just want him to be happy, he has spent most of his time this year in the stable. It just seems cruel.
I have some easiboots on order to try. I really hope they work, but got to get him over this set back first.
Hi, so sorry to hear about Misty - what you are experiencing is unfortunately classic Lammi , Hard ground , stress, concussion lammi been there and worn the T shirt, 2 years running, but I am coping better this after last years experiences, you find out what works and what don't, unfortunately there is no magic solution, trial and error finding out what works - on the up side you will find what does - I am sure Tracey will tell you all about that, she has had more ups than downs for 18 months but is now on the otherside - determination, will power and the strength to fight for your pony when often it seems impossible, tears, heartache, sleepless nights and worry all part of it, every emotion you can think of including blaming yourself.... and for Debs the heartache when the battle was lost - but some good comes out of bad and we all learnt a lot from Lucys battle through Debs decision to share the whole experience. I found that Exercise is the key with Lammi, there are lots of different views but for me I believe if you can maintain a level of exercise/turnout it really does work - in Acorns case, no box rest now for lammi, bute and out obviously on restricted BTBH grass does not seem to be an issue with him, from what you are saying that seems to be the case with Misty - getting them sound is a nightmare, I do hope the boots work for you, they will certainly allow comfort for turnout to get the mobility going and using his limbs properly promoting healthy feet.
do let us know how you get on with the Vet, sounds like another lammi attack to me due to the ground conditions, unless you have been extreemly unlucky to get abcess in both feet at the same time, but would be simply off feet as said before they can't apply weight. Has Misty suffered any rotation? what has your farrier said?- make sure getting nutrients its important for their general wellbeing, obviously with plenty of poor quality forage, how is the general condition -maintaining a healthy weight or poor?
Acorn gets Morbid if hes is deprived of exercise and social interaction for any length of time, infact 2 days maximum for exercise and 3 at most for Company. He gets a boost and his whole demeaner lifts as soon as he is out and mixing, he has to seperated at times but I do try to keep it to a minimum.
The First episode last year vets said keep in, the mobility issues that followed, we nearly lost him, he then had abcess and months of remedial but no rotation thank god! walking (or dragging) down to the field every day people looking at you as though you are the most cruel person in the world, sad, ribby lame little pony, but you learn to rise above that and slowley it comes right and the feeling when they are sound at last is brilliant, buts you know that is not the battle won totally as you have to find a way of preventing a future episode and that is not always easy.
Remember you are not alone, each one of us on here is either going through or recovering from this damn illness, we have shared bad times and good and for me its good to come on let what I feel out, as most think you are either paranoid or mad or both! its only a horse, no its not hes part of my family.
He went out like a Rocket with his boots on this morning, but is hobbling round the field on the hard ground without, hes turned out with Charlie for the first time in 3 weeks so he is wanting play but Acorn is struggling a little with it, I just hope hes okay when I go to get him tonight, he will have his boots on to walk back to the stable, just about off bute altogether now (3months), I am really hoping the next trim sorts this out, his hooves are starting to shed sole and the frogs are looking better so I am pleased in that respect.
Do let us know how Misty is doing and chin up you will get there in the end

Do tell us a little about Misty , age, height, lifestyle,
back in later for updates, do hope everyone else is safe and well today
