I poo pick the field my horse is in and wonder where it all comes from so 4 during the day and having 1 small haynet cant be bad surely.
I also asked him about turning her out at certain times of day. I mentioned the sugar content being higher at certain times and he thought this was rubbish!!! He said how could they be so precise? I'm glad he is not my vet and I won't be using him if (touch wood) my horse ever needs a vet.
I refuse to use him for the dogs from his attuitude to me before.
She isnt ribby at all but just perfect in my eyes and I hate to see fat horses and dogs.

if she is 13 - 1 and around 318kg then I would not be too worried dependent on bone structure, our Mare is 13.3 and looks Ribby at anything under 375kg,
she is quite heavy boned, traditional Cob but not real big if you know what I mean - a photo would tell us a lot, don't think much of your Vet, you are paying for his advice not for you to tell him what you think or want, yes input and discuss but a the end of the day you would expect something for what he paid! Turned out will help to stop adding any weight, basically using what she eats energy wise if you are lucky, it will help her mobility, joints and muscle structure and get those feet working again, 5 lots of droppings during the day is about normal for my 3, acorn only does 2/3 overnight,the others maybe 3/4 so for 4 during the day not really reflective, they need to be passing regular, I would be more worried if it dropped anything under what I consider normal for mine, you know the gut is working. Had to laught a bit though what would he have said if you had skipped out before he came - your not feeding enough! Its a shame if she is to left to the whims of owners/vet who seem not to be sure where they are going with her recovery, you would be stronger than me to walk away, I am not judging or saying you are wrong, I can well understand how you feel, but I would have to lay it out to them wether they liked it or not - I do for her sake hope they see sense.
How did she go when you put her out? do let us have photos so we can see.
Meanwhile I think she can count herself lucky that you are there watching out for her

Afternoon all, wow its taken up to now for me to catch up, really busy on here now.
Acorn was fine yesterday, No boots for the walk either way up/down to Field and managed really well, the ground being wet is much softer so no struggling on that, all in all looking good.
Tipping it down here today so he is having a day in his paddock, sure he will not be too happy when I get him tonight and give me grief but I am used to that, hopefully weather a bit better tomorrow so he can go back upto the field. Other two are fine, Tess up to 2 days ago very White on her white bits is now mostly black, combination of wet and the barest part of the field to roll in she can find so a bath at the weekend for her methinks. Charlie somehow just shines Red all the time, he has a bit of a Tum, we are in process of getting him a roller and boots and then will up his exercise,he gets daily walk outs but needs more now.
Hope Bobs and Vicky and all the newbies are well today, still trying to get my head round everyone and names, may be we should have a list like we did last time before the threads get too long to keep searching on - would help me - my memory is like a sieve these days

Thanks Lemme, I will still be around but as the owners don't listen to anyone's advice on anything (also my OH's employers) I am just not going to offer any anymore.
I couldnt help sticking my nose back in if she goes down hill!!
She was a wee bit footy but covered the whole paddock in search of muzzle length grazing and my OH went to catch her while I filled a small hay net for her to eat overnight and her muzzle came off and she very nearly escaped from him. She is cobby native type and I dont feel she should come down too much more in weight but I'm not an expert.
She'll maybe be fine and it would be sod's law for people who don't really have a clue or care to have an easy case to deal with and those who put their heart and soul in to end up with a heartbreaking case.
I'll try and get a pic tonight but always forget my camera. Only 2 minutes from the house mind you.

afternoon well been raining all nite, and temp drop abit and didnt poor bobs no about he was a stiff boy this morin going out, and feet where bit sore this morin so boots on today, just dont no some time whats sore with him is it the feet or just stiffness in the joint... but he had his b-fast and walked out very slow. bless him.. hope all hoofs are well today

Goodness fancy a vet saying 4 piles of droppings,hell if he came into Ben's stable he'd have a heart attack 
.Overnight I usually get at least 2/3 of a barrow of just droppings & believe me these droppings would suggest an elephant was in residence they're so huge.Doesn't sound as if the mare's overweight to me,Ben is 13.3 1/2hh & weighs in at about 436 kilos.Not really fat no gutter spine clear of fat no shoulder pads but dratted ribs are always covered more than appropriate.Sometimes wonder how much knowledge some vets have as to lami,the one that diagnosed Ben gave me no information at all really.

just like me then, Ihave been taking my Camera up last2 nights and like you a couple of minutes away
From sound of it she has coped quite well with the turnout, you would expect her to be a little footy so that would not worry me too much,how are her feet, toes tend to go long and heels up, if they are then she needs the old toe in heels down treatment, Acorn had his done 2 weeks ago and I noticed this morning one toe is just starting to lengthen, although there is a fair ammount of sole change going in now in both fronts and with the road work it will change again but looking at it he will def need a trim at 4 weeks to balance to make sure we don't have problems like last time.
Can see situation is a little difficult with them being OH employers - life is never simple is it.

Probably a bit of both Tracey, if hes stiff then he will be stressing his feet, do you put anything on a night for his limbs, we had equi chaps stable chaps for our Arthritic TB and they helped no end, did you get any magnetic wraps, they work wonders on our Mare.
Do hope hes better after a day of leg stretching

I think half the problem is that the thinking into lammi is being changed and updated so frequently that not all of them are on the same hymn sheet, especially the old school brigade - ours is quite a large practice and the knowledge/advice does change between them, however they are all singing on the same hymn sheet now with my little man, but I did put my twopennth in if I thought something not quite right and we would discuss and involve the farrier as well - think it has to be complete picture for managing them,after all we know our ponies quirks better than anyone.
Tess at 13.3 if she goes over 400kg then as yours is described, it is difficult with the Cobs, I like her around 385kg but at 375kg she's not ribby and certainly has more energy, but it does give us room for variance at this time of year.

Silver is weight taping at 300kg, and shes 12"1... That said she has a gutter spine, fat pads and a paechy bum 
I hope Bobs is feeling a bit better tonight - ironically Silver is happier now the temps have dropped - rain gives her some peace and quiet to eat in and seems less itchy.

there you go, I know we talked about them ages ago, give them a try morning and night whilst having his breakfast and Teas, start with 10 - 20 minutes and extend if required, some can stay on overnight if want dependent on type, sure there will be instructions with them,while we have the damp weather - I will be suprised if you do not see improvement, you can then reduce the ammount of time once the weather improves. poor boy.

As predicted bad mood all round for mine last night, Moody Mare wanted to stay in the long grass and didn't appreciate being moved into the partially cropped overnight paddock, Charlie wanted to go in the front well eaten paddock so he could pinch the hawthorne out of the hedges but wanted to be in the other paddock, so compromised and left the electric gates open between the two and let then make their own mind up
Acorn as mad as hell cos he had been in his little paddock all day, on the the plus side hes sound and off bute - no boots - upto the field this morning- no problems with the roadwork, the test will be tonight coming back but the ground is softer in the field now so no problems there. Feet are putting a little length on so will ring the farrier and see what he says, he may want to come at 3 weeks, more than likely with him now going to get the roadwork he will say 4 weeks - he's not usually wrong.
anyway back to work, in later to check for updates

Turned Heidi out this morning. Its baltic with us and wet so the ground is great for delicate feet. Noticed she was very footy on the concrete but once on the soft grass she toddled off head down.
Still on bute but only a few sachets left and the owners will be back late Thursday night so will leave it to them to decide what to do with the vet.
I'm turning her out longer every day but always muzzled.
She likes to come in at night anyway so the owners will probably just open the cattle court up again so she is free range rather than bring her in and out.

We are also all good this morning - bloomin typical - been beside herself with allergies for about three weeks... Today?? Nothing. Not bothered in the slightest. Flami typical when Im paying £60 for the vet to come and see her this afternoon

xPFB haven't you ever made an appointment at the docs & immediately got better bet that is what has made Sil better .The blessed grass is growing at a h**l of a rate round here so am on pins again ,is it everyone else finding the same at the moment ( including Sil who's just determined to cost her poor Mum a fortune in vets bills .

Its been raining with us since Saturday and the grass in the garden has gone nuts so I think there could be trouble ahead...........
afternoon all. glad your hooves are well, its not rainning here but we have sea mist, so gone cooler than what it was. well bobs front feet seem fine. but now he lame on his rear right , may be with being sore on fronts his put more weight on his backs . checked back hooves no heat or pulse. so that one good thing. but worryed now if his not good on backs that means hes going to put more weight on his front feet. ( you no when you just feel like running away)? any found the ( back on track boots) i got bobs last year put them on his hocks for 5mins will put them back on tonite when bring him back in. to see if what happens. but to me hes stiff on hip joint ? any advise? on what i could do...
