Morning all,

Checking in seems to be the first thing I do when I get to work I really was hoping things had moved on, in one respect they have he has moved out on his own, I know its awful to see but in the long run it is necessary, If it was me I would have let the farrier come out Tracy, he could then have looked and made the decision what was best to do, I know you are only trying to protect him but that does sometimes cloud our judgement, I know I waved on the edge a few times over the past months and that is natural you just want to take the pain away.......but like most things they seem to get worse before they get better....... I really do feel for you both but it if was me I would ask the farrier to come out and let him make the judgement call, he will be looking at it from a totally different angle than you, we are just too close sometimes, I know I was at times...... I do hope today is a better day for you both and as already said there are a lot of people routing and supporting you in this, its just a shame we are so far away.........

just came back from bobs, hes not good this morin, he just about got up from floor, have call vet wait for return call, and phone farrier again got answear fone waiting for call back, he did get up in end, but is so unsteady on his feet a few times i through he was going to fall, ( yes tears came) gave him a rub down to try and get his legs moving.. left door open but no he didnt want to come out, just had a good luck around then back up and went to hay,

in xrays the vet said the pedal bone had moved not much but it had moved, the 2ns xray was taken just over a week ago and there was no change so it had not gone worse but no better, just dont no what else to do. him want loosen up because he want come out. what else would you advise?
my heart is breaking for him just dont no what else todo, he has so many oils for his bones am giving him lamisheld to help him with the lami, his has hoof oils frog oil, just dont no where i have gone wrong,

heres me going on.. how is your doing?

Personally I would get farrier out asap to have the shoes off and keep him in a deep bed, don't worry too much about him moving around and worrying about getting stiff at the moment concentrate on the lameness. If I was you, honestly, I would have a second opinion from another vet asap too - the sooner you do something the better as so far waiting and seeing has don nothing! That's my thoughts any way!!

hi waiting for farrier to call me back, if he says shoes to come off then i will say take then off, was trying to give bobs a rest for all the digging and pulling at him over the last week, but leaving heart shoes on has done him no good. dont feel like i can do right from wrong with him at the min, i did ask the vet that the other day if hes still got lami or is it the abcess, hes saying its the abcess now, but i just dont no? his hoofs are going and not as hot as they were, the foot with the abcess in is very hot today and his leg is today and it looks up ? just dont no what to do for the best?

Hi, so sorry the news is no better, you say he is having so many oils?

Have you made a list and advised your Vet/farrier what he is on, just in case some of the combination is not helping, I had to take mine off everything and then re-introduce once he was cleared ... might just be worth mentioning to them - diet can play a big factor at anytime but when they have a problem like Bob it could be some part of it is a trigger........ might not be but always worth exploring.......

Do keep us posted on how he is doing, thinking of you both

From what you are saying it sounds as if the abcess is travelling up the leg, is there anything at the Coronary band?

My little man is slowly improving , it is just going to be time, he is out now, finds road work easier but still struggling with any rutty areas on the fields., when he hits a nice bit he's off like a rocket!

Def worth checking his diet, it can play a huge roll, haylage is not the best thing to feed as it is so high in sugar for example, my EP has said never to feed it to a lammi! Lily gets soaked hay now!

hi bobs is on hay not haylage because the vet told us to stop giving him it so we have i have to soak it as well because of the dust in the hay , which dose not agree with him, since being on box rest (2nd jan) we have had him on a diet which to be truefull he needed to lost some weight he only 14"2 after hard work with getting his diet right hes done well and lost weight and looks a lot better, hes on happy hoof which the vet told us to put him on he has one apple in morin and one at nite because he needs to take his painkillers, the only thing he dose have and the vet said was fine he like his cup of tea after his meals :) just one tea bag with hot water in a small bucket, NO MILK OR SUGER.. and when hes not drinking his water i no he drinks his tea so i no he drinks. any other advise can you give the other members on here have been so great you all have keeped me going , big thank you x

yes farrier know what he has and he said it was all fine, but will see vet over it, and ask him what he thinks, went back to bobs at 1.00 he was ok let me clean his foot today which he didnt let me do y-day, left stable door open to see if he would come out , which he did, walking not to good but at least he came out headed for the small patch of grass which he had a munch off. then after 30mins walked him back to his stable, still very unsteady on his front feet. vet / farrier still not rang yet??? if farrier dose not get intough tonite ill try other farrier,can not keep putting up with this. let you no later if they get intough, thanks for being there 4 us both :)

your post seemed more positive :) small steps but once he starts moving around then he will loosen up which will in turn make him feel better in himself, just this abcess to get to then by the sound of it, take it you heard nothing from the farrier so will await your next update - keep strong you are getting there albiet slowly....

just came back from bobs he was bit better today, and standing when i got there which is a good sign> he came out slow but ok feet are still very sore, but he made it to a small patch of grass he been out for 3 hours which is great but you could see his feet where getting very sore so he walked very slow back to his stable and i leave him going to sleep. tired boy now :) x

:):) I can tell from your post you are feeling more postive in yourself now, just keep it going, take each day at time and the highs from it, tomorrow the farrier and hopefully the road to full recovery will begin, sounds as though he is already starting to feel better in himself - well done you.....

Glad to hear Bobs has ventured out into the lovely sunshine, he'll feel so much better for it! He's bound to be sore but just take it a day at a time... will look tomorrow to see how it all goes, take care:)

felt great y-day with bobs going out, as i said you could tell his feet where sore but it was up to him if he wanted to go out with me leaving his stable door open, vet phoned me last nite and i had told him bobs didnt want to go out over wkend but he has been out on monday /y-day, vet had ask if i had put him in paddock i said no, he had just been on a bit of grass by his stable, vet said if hes not happy (bobs) to go to paddock, dont turn him out leave him in his stable??? now vet told me ther other day to get the farrier out over to take heart shoes off because they were not helping his feet, last nite he told me to tell the farrier to leave them on?? just dont no which way to turn,,, feels like am taking one step forward and 20 back, i get the feeling the vet is not telling me somethink? and i dont no what.. vet dose keep saying bobs has not inproved like he should be. ??
 
Morning, what a going on you are having, I would ask your farriers opinion when he gets there, if he thinks they need to come off then ask him to speak with the Vet as to why he thinks they should now be left on, otherwise it might be time to get another Vet to have a look, a second opinion might be a good thing in anycase....... do let us know how you get on, I will keep checking in....... I am not able to get to a Computer till Monday after today so I will be thinking about you both....... If you think the Vet is not telling you everything - ask him direct ..... you need to have the full picture to manage him at the sharp end so to speak.. try not to worry, easy to say I know .....

Pleased to hear he ventured out a little yesterday, you always get differing opinions and the vet may be sending you mixed signals as he isn’t really sure himself, he may have said not to go to the paddock or grass for fear the grass may not help the lami?

Having the shoes on doesn’t seem to be helping, ask your farrier but I would certainly be inclined to take them off and see how he goes.

Also really consider a second opinion, if your vet is now confusing you as well and things not progressing it is well worth doing (if I was in your situation I would be)

With Lily’s lami it felt very much like one step forward and 20 back, it’s a horrible feeling and you start to get your hopes up at the slightest improvement only to have them shattered again. Is the farrier still coming out today? Look forward to hearing his views

PLease get another opinion... I haven't wanted to frighten or upset you, but had i have listened to my vet (been with same practice for 25 yrs!!!) My pony would not be here now.... They told me it was the end for Lucy and I'm so glad I did get another opinion - You have nothing to loose (get another farrier to look as well, I trust my farrier but I just wanted to be doubley sure, again its worth it) Neither of them are responding to you and Bobs needs like they should be... both should be on the ball, advising, helping and calling in to get updates. Between them they are causing you distress and thats not fair on you or Bobs... Keep plodding... if you want to talk at anytime, pm me and I'll give you my numbers...;)

Farrier came last nite (at long last) he checked bobs feet and he said there has been a inprovement sin he last here bobs feet gone much harder because last time farrier was here they were very soft, he told me he was leaving shoes on and in two weeks he will come and reset them because if he did them now it will just upset bobs to much will him being unsteady on his feet, he said he is getting better ( thats all i wanted to be told ) but its going to take time, the pedel bone has dropped ... but still no sign of abcess coming throw, farrier said he dose not look like his has lami because he looks so well and there is no rings around the hoof. ? he said if he wants to go out let him out it will do him good ( thats what we have all said ). the lami-shield and the oil i give him for his old bones :) are all fine to give him. x

so after that good news i hope hes ok this morin and hes up and about it may sound silly but all i wanted to hear from vet /farrier there is a small inprovement, :)

Please do be careful with where you turn him out particularly with the spring grass coming through, if he has had lami in the past, particularly recently he will be very prone to another attack and the grass could cause this very quickly. I won't let Lily out near grass - her paddock is bare and she has soaked hay, throughout her laminitis she has looked very healthy and well. I will be interested to hear what his feet are like once the shoes are off as shoes can hide a number of things when it comes down to lami and abscesses. No harm in turning out as long as it is controlled! The last thing you want is him gorging on grass or running around when he has a rotated pedal bone! I am guessing he won't feel up to that though! Fingers crossed he is ok this morning when you see him
