What's everyone's opinion on rubber riding boots?
They're a lot cheaper than leather riding boots, but are they still comfortable and leg fitting like regular boots?
Half URGENT!
Thanks
:D

I personally hate them, IME, you cant feel the horse through your boots, and my calfs wont fit in them even though im skinny. Whoever designed them needs to look at horse riders tlegs, and then re think how they're made  However, just my opinion lol

i love my rubber aigle long boots,,wearing anything else while riding would feel strange, would love to buy a leather pair, but would have to stop riding for a month to afford them, plus with the rubber ones you cant really get a polished up shine, just wipe them with a wet sponge, and the soles never seem to show any wear,

Hate them to be honest! I find it really hard to keep my heels down and do simple signals like "Outside leg back". I also find that they take a while to break in and "unstifen". A few of my friends wear them and have no troubles.

Rubber boots are nice and cheap though - I also used to find if i got mine a size to big.. (so they'd last longer ;) ) and I walked through a soaking muddy, boggy field, my boot would come right of and get stuck in the mud!

I much prefur my half chaps and jodphur boots :D

I practically live in my rubber toggi boots, they are lined and very warm. They are fab for wading through mucky, boggy fields without your welly getting sucked off in the mud, never get hay stuck down them and they wash up great too. However they arent the most comfortable thing to wear when riding, I find my ankles can get quite sore on a long hack( but they are soooo warm).
I think it just comes down to personal preference. Mine are great winter boots, but will be put away in the spring and it will be back to short boots and chaps for me. Good luck:)

I hate them too, you cant beat a nice pair of leather long boots. I personally think its better to save up and buy a leather pair. I have just got mountain horse highrider pro and they are SOOO comfy i was suprised!!!!

Good luck

I like mine i cant be doing with leather its to much like hard work and when they get muddy i just hose them off.Im looking forward to trying my new boots and chaps out but im waiting for the better weather .

I find them the most uncomfortable things to wear. I recommend Equitector boots - they help keep feet in the right position in the stirrup, and coupled with a pair of chaps, you just can't beat'em.

Ditto. I used to wear rubber boots - they were too tight around my skinny calves but when riding without stirrups, i frequently lost them! :o

Joddy boots and chaps the whole way for me. Just for interest Doris, what chaps do you use with your equitectors? I got some zip up chaps (the £20 suedette type) and they didnt fit around the ankle without the boot crushing my already weak ankles...
Just bought some Pikeur velcro ones half price in the derby house sale...

As an RI I hate them. hard for novice riders in new stiff boots to achieve a good leg position and can wreck saddles!! Much prefer to see well worn leather or short boots with gaitors or chaps. For cheapness try rubber Jodphur boots with chaps.

Hate them, the only thing mine were any good for was walking through deep mud because they stayed on better than wellies, and now I have muck boots I don't even used the nasty rubber things for that. Jod boots and chaps are much nicer to ride in and for shows I have leather boots from ebay that worked out cheaper than the rubber boots!

Hate them with a vengeance! They look like they've all been stamped out into a foot shape from a big mould :p. Plus they dont supple up or give to you at all so it's always a battle to get your heels down properly because the boot wants to spring back to it's factory setting of this shape - L :p
Finding leather boots to fit my legs (long, thin, and with a very high instep but slim ankles) is a nightmare, I have Mountain horse Sportive boots for everyday getting-muddy stuff and hopping on horses, they are okay but rubbed my instep a little at first and are a good 3 inches too short in the leg.
I have fleece lined waxed leather muckers with brown suede chaps (£8 from Robinsons and they're brilliant, best bargain ever, bought 2 pairs :D) for yard work and sinking in muddy fields (dont laugh, me and a pony got stuck the other day up to our knees - luckily I was close enough to the fence to pull myself out but my feet got soaked :(), and I have Jeffries synthetic chaps and some leather jodphur boots for everyday riding but Im hoping to start using the Sportives more (only just got them).
Im going to pay to have some long boots custom made from soft leather then I know they will FINALLY be right.

Im an appalling vegetarian :o, I LOVE leather boots and tack. I adore my leather dressage saddle so much I havent sold it, even though there's no horse to ride it in!

Oh I thought of something else - did everyone else's rubber boots regurgitate their insides at some point?? Meaning that all the lining came out attached to your foot each time you took them off? :p And never quite went back in properly...? I ended up cutting the feet of all of mine, then wearing thick socks which was very uncomfy .
Perhaps I just took them off wrong! It's been short boots and chaps for me for a loooong time now though.

Nope. I've had mine for a year now and I need a new pair but never had that experience with them before, infact I've always found them very comfortable to ride in and really not a problem:D

lol!! Yes, that happened to my last 2 pairs!!! :D I have rubber boots, but I only use them during the winter and don't like to school in them as I find them too unyielding and I don't use them if I go on long hacks cos my feet tend to get cold when I wear them!! But they are good for going up the muck heap and ploughing through the mud! I will wear them when I go on shorter hacks though.

I'm a joddy boots and chaps kinda girl really!
