Rubber Riding Boots

Even though rubber riding boots make riding slightly more difficult I like the look of the hunt/jumping boot from aigle. And its cheaper than buying the leather equivilent

I had a pair but I didn;t wear them a lot - prefer my short boots.
Found it hard to be supple in the lower leg with them. On the plus side I felt they did help give me a bit more stability of lower leg, but maybe that was because I couldn't move it!!! :p

i went to a riding shop to buy leather boots, parents had bank card ready hehe but the lady in the shop said to buy rubber riding boots instead as its easier to feel the horse as most leather boots are incredibly stiff, i relied on her advice as she could have sold me the leather ones and made a hell of a lot more money

Now I only wear rubber riding boots when im doing barn work.the rubber riding boots were not helping my position at all,i could'nt bend my heals properly. I have a pair of leather riding boots and i LOVE them! For the winter i have winter riding boots, they keep my feet warm, and they have really nice flexability, WAY better than rubber :)

What's everyone's opinion on rubber riding boots?
They're a lot cheaper than leather riding boots, but are they still comfortable and leg fitting like regular boots?
Half URGENT!
Thanks
:D
Sweaty in summer and cold in winter. Personally, I don't think they look right in competition riding either - spoiling the ship for a ha'p'orth of tar! Start saving up or look round the independent tack shops for good second hand.

If you go on robinsons webiste, they sell saxon equileather long boots and joddy boots.
Ive been wanting to know if anybody has any knowing of what theyre like to ride in?:)

When i used to ride I had Toggi rubber boots which were the only type I could wear because of my ankle problems. They provide good support and i have huge calves. THe toggi extra wide ones are a lifesaver.

Much prefer joddy boots and chaps I can feel the horse much better, also way to cold in winter and really sweaty in summer. A useful tip though if you do want rubber boots if you polish them with ordinary shoe polish they will eventually shine up like leather.

I just wore rubber riding boots first time.

Good sides:
- The erhmm...English is not my native..the thing on which you put your feet on did not disturb me at all anymore, in sneakers I felt like riding barefoot
- I did not mind that much about accidentally stepping in horse pooh again.
- Horse pooh came of very quick only using water and a sponge.
- I did not slip anymore

Downsides:
-I boiled in those boots. At 8 AM it was already 30 Celsius degrees and wearing long black rubber boots - not fun
- On the horse it was okay, but walking I felt like Pinocchio. Very stiffy feeling.
- I forgot to get some socks , hence when trying to get them off I realised I'm stuck in them and someone had to help me.

I started horseriding in rubber boots....They were comfortable. I started in winter and was riding outside,so I saw one really good reason: I could put in a lot of socks / tights in when it was cold.
Now, in summer, it is too hot to wear them. And I feel that I as a rider you should have proper shoes. The rubber boots are bigger around calves usually. I do not think they fit good.
Then I felt that because they are so big on foot I would have a problem to loose the stirrups while falling.

I hate them. So do my sisters, but funnily enough we all have a pair. that's 3 pairs of boots that are practically unused. I got mine for free from a friend who had outgrown them and they were used on the yard and for riding in for about 2 months until I got jodphur boots and later chaps. I now live in short boots and chaps and wouldn't wear anything else.
I still wear my rubber boots XC because I can't get my heel down in them as much as usual. My ankles are far too flexible and lettig the weight down into my heels absolutely kills after a few minutes XC, so I put on rubber boots and only get that sore bit where the rubber collapses inward round the ankle.
Mine are also too short and manage to come just under the edge of the saddle flap in normal length stirrups which pinches like mad.

My little sister's lower leg position improved imediately after she ditched the rubber boots and we got her a pair of nice cheap decathlon jodphur boots and chaps, they are just brilliant and very well made.

I practically live in my rubber toggi boots, they are lined and very warm. They are fab for wading through mucky, boggy fields without your welly getting sucked off in the mud, never get hay stuck down them and they wash up great too. However they arent the most comfortable thing to wear when riding, I find my ankles can get quite sore on a long hack( but they are soooo warm).
I think it just comes down to personal preference. Mine are great winter boots, but will be put away in the spring and it will be back to short boots and chaps for me. Good luck:)

I have The Rubber Toggi ones. I also find them hard to ride in.

I have Toggi riding boots myself and find that they did get better with wear. I still have trouble putting my heels down. My friend has a pair of mustang boots and finds them a bit of a problem as well. I must get a pair of chaps soon
