The stupid hunt ....

however...on Nikkis trail of thought then foxes kill for fun and food - are we not allowed to do the same?
Foxes kill for survival not for fun.

I have no problem with any type of hunting that produces food for the table or necessary clothing. What I do object to is the killing of any animal purely for sport, entertaiment or fashion fur.

In my opinion, foxhunting, hare coursing, badger baiting, mink breeding and bull fighting fall into these categories.

..... hunting is a good way of simulating natural selection e.i. survival of the fittest and so promoting a healthy fox population

Where does cub hunting fit into this theory?

now now people what did i say about playing nicely! whilst theres a lot of people saying time to close the thread etc, its stupid comments by immature people that know nothing that cause this,

saying hunting is wrong and cruel isnt a debate, or really a conversation, having a conversation going about it in general is refreshing, as this thread has exposed, theres a few people that are genuinely intrested, debating points etc is how people get knowlege.

and yes 95 % have hi jacked this thread, sorry op. but it is good to see what i class in most posts as being an intelligent conversation about a hot topic!

the enforcement of the Hunting Act means anyone chasing or killing a wild mammal with dogs are in breach of the law.

OK, so if my JRs go after, and kill, a rat in the barn I could be prosecuted - but if my three cats do so, I can't ... is that what it means? If so why don't dogs have equal rights to cats (not that they ever were in the first place, of course ... ;)

unfortunatley you point is 100% valid, again, its why the hunting act is such dribble, wont be long and the master lassoing the fox will be the only option open to a days hunting... lasso it on the wednesday, free it ready for the saturday!

This is from a woman who nearly lost her hubby due to the ban,we lost our home, had to see hounds destroyed, and child lost his school DUE TO THE BL**DY BAN!!!!!!!!!!

The original point of this thread was someone annoyed that her horse had got out because the hunt passing got it wound up. People on here said it was the owners responsibility to keep her horse safe even if it meant bringing her horse in while the hunt was passing. So going by that, then the owners of chickens/ lambs etc should be responsible for them and keep them safe from a fox.

im sorry but thats a daft thing to say. thats like saying dont cross a road incase you get run over, somethings in life have to be done, lambs going out in a field is one of them.

Rat hunting is exempt from the Hunting Act, so you would not be prosecuted for hunting rats with any number of dogs (or cats) on your own land or any one ele's with their permission.:)

No it isn't, it is my opinion. If a horse owner is responsible for the welfare of their horse and should bring it in if the hunt is passing then whoever is responsible for chickens/ lambs is responsible for their welfare. And I grew up on a farm with both hens and lambs.

I feel for you Hedgehunter, I wonder how many of the 'Fluffy Fox Fan Club' can ignore a post like that and still whittle on that hunting is wrong, only done for the fun of it etc, when in fact it's part of a way of life and was a main income for some people.

Now drag hunts actually have to offer the farmer an additional service in order to feel they are giving back for using their land to hunt, thats usually done by collection dead animals from the farm and feeding them to the hounds - something which is strictly legislated if done any other way - drag hunts now actually save the farmers money. If all hunting were banned, this service would stop and even more farmers would go out of business.

So all you veggies who love your organic carrots would have to get them from places like Africa, so really do think about all your whittering and the impact of such actions, its not just a few foxes who are 'saved' it's lives ruined, herritage etc what would you rather happen a 1000acres be conserved for hunting of 1000acres turned into a scummy affordable housing estate?

The natural instinct of a fox is to kill what he can when the opportunity arises. The fox would have returned to collect all the carcasses if given the chance. He would then have stored them for leaner times when food was more scarce.

I can assure you without a doubt, cub hunting still does take place. Ask anyone who's recently been to a meet.

Does the hunt pass every single day???? no, does the hunt break into your stable??? no. Does the hunt go out with the sole purpose to kill your horse? no - so it's totally different!

My hens were killed late morning time!

I said the owners should be responsible for them just like the posters on here who said a horse owner should be responsible for the safety and well being of the horse
