That's true, but hunting with hounds has never been used to kill foxes for their pelts either.

Foxes kill for survival not for fun.however...on Nikkis trail of thought then foxes kill for fun and food - are we not allowed to do the same?
..... hunting is a good way of simulating natural selection e.i. survival of the fittest and so promoting a healthy fox population
the enforcement of the Hunting Act means anyone chasing or killing a wild mammal with dogs are in breach of the law.
OK, so if my JRs go after, and kill, a rat in the barn I could be prosecuted - but if my three cats do so, I can't ... is that what it means? If so why don't dogs have equal rights to cats (not that they ever were in the first place, of course ...![]()

I have no problem with any type of hunting that produces food for the table or necessary clothing. What I do object to is the killing of any animal purely for sport, entertaiment or fashion fur.
In my opinion, foxhunting, hare coursing, badger baiting, mink breeding and bull fighting fall into these categories.
Where does cub hunting fit into this theory?![]()
ok,so why did charley fox kill 15 of my sons hens but only take 3???
Cub Hunting.....It dosnt fit into any theory cos of all the folk who know nothing about hunting got it banned so it dosnt happen anymore!
This is from a woman who nearly lost her hubby due to the ban,we lost our home, had to see hounds destroyed, and child lost his school DUE TO THE BL**DY BAN!!!!!!!!!!![]()
The original point of this thread was someone annoyed that her horse had got out because the hunt passing got it wound up. People on here said it was the owners responsibility to keep her horse safe even if it meant bringing her horse in while the hunt was passing. So going by that, then the owners of chickens/ lambs etc should be responsible for them and keep them safe from a fox.
Rat hunting is exempt from the Hunting Act, so you would not be prosecuted for hunting rats with any number of dogs (or cats) on your own land or any one ele's with their permission.OK, so if my JRs go after, and kill, a rat in the barn I could be prosecuted - but if my three cats do so, I can't ... is that what it means? im sorry but thats a daft thing to say. thats like saying dont cross a road incase you get run over, somethings in life have to be done, lambs going out in a field is one of them.

The natural instinct of a fox is to kill what he can when the opportunity arises. The fox would have returned to collect all the carcasses if given the chance. He would then have stored them for leaner times when food was more scarce.ok,so why did charley fox kill 15 of my sons hens but only take 3???
I can assure you without a doubt, cub hunting still does take place. Ask anyone who's recently been to a meet.Cub Hunting.....It dosnt fit into any theory cos of all the folk who know nothing about hunting got it banned so it dosnt happen anymore!
No it isn't, it is my opinion. If a horse owner is responsible for the welfare of their horse and should bring it in if the hunt is passing then whoever is responsible for chickens/ lambs is responsible for their welfare. And I grew up on a farm with both hens and lambs.
Does the hunt pass every single day???? no, does the hunt break into your stable??? no. Does the hunt go out with the sole purpose to kill your horse? no - so it's totally different!

.
im sorry but this utter rubbish, foxes do NOT store food for leaner times, not like they have a freezer is it! meet goest off etc, foxes prefure there meat fresh!
maybe they do..... maybe they have friends who let them use the freezer in their garage. remember we now have urban foxes they prob have a 3 bed semi!![]()

So you are saying that hens lambs ect should be shut in 24 hours a day?
My hens were killed late morning time!
