Is there such a thing as a Norwegian Fjord cross?

Hi i have never seen any fjord x , i do like fjords very much. I would love to see a fjord x haflinger . That would make a vey nice pony.

I was told recently that the Fjord society frown on cross breeding Fjords (I think that 'frown' is putting it nicely :) ) but does anyone know of any out there and what they were put to and look like?

Not for any particular reason, it's just a cross that I've never come across :)

In France, they have had a project going on for some time now, crossing Fjord with Arabians. The meaning of the breeding is to get a lighter horse than the Fjord, but to keep the god temerament, and the speed and lightness of an Arabian. A kind of sport pony.

We Norwegians are not particially fond of crossing other breeds in to the Fjord, because we want to keep the horse as it is. It´s a horse we are very proud of, and it is also strictly forbidden to cross breed. But still, we have cross breeding in Norway to. Unfortenataly, cause I can not see the point in it.

The Fjords gene is actually dominant, and mostly when you cross a fjord with another breed, you can easely see it`s a fjord in there:) This has nothing to to with the fjord having a gene no one else horse breed has, it`s simply a dominant gene. It`s very like a pinto gene, where you will most surtan get the spots when crossing it with something else without spots.

Hate to bring up bad news, but we lost Sven this year in the Three Island Crossing re-enactment of the crossing of the Snake River. It celebrates the main crossing of the Snake River along the Oregon Trail. The water was quite deep and fast and he just gave up on me. It was the biggest loss of any animal I've ever felt.

The good news is that good friends found us a team of Fjord mules in our area and we're working on getting them trained to drive this summer.

Here's a pic or two of them. They won't ever replace the relationship I had with Sven, but they are beautiful! We still can't tell which is which. They are full sisters - coming 2 and 3 years old.

We also keep a gallery of them at this link:

That is devestating news. My deepest sympathy to you. What a tragic accident. Big hug :(

How did I miss this one!
So sad about your loss.
I found this Gaited Fjoird Mule on the web a few years ago

And Hawleywoods have one for sale

Winnie is sort of up for sale if anyone is interested!!

She is a dear girl. I have just spent 7 days working with her and watching her coming along leaps and bounds (not literally).

A real corker.

Ooh, wish I was in a position to buy at the moment. I love Fjords and love Icelandics, so what could be better?!

ETA: Duh, just realised this is a really old thread that has been resurrected!

There's a horse here

http://www.horsemart.co.uk/advert/9_yrs_14_0_hh_palomino_haflinger_northamptonshire/37239

that is claimed to be Fjord/Haflinger cross, but to be honest I prefer the looks of pure Fjord or pure Haflinger, both of which have nicer colouring I think.

I posted this one in another thread recently, Fjord x Shetland!

Saw the shettie. IMHO I fink it was a dun shettie, no fjord in her. Very sweet little ponio however.

There is a Fjord x haflinger on horsemart! Its so cute i want it :p but i have enough horses right now! I might let my Elite fjord mare to have a foal only to an elite stallion or there is no point really :)
