Is there such a thing as a Norwegian Fjord cross?

Best of three falls?????? ;) ;)

Bring it Wally!!!

Actually, we are really the hold on to what you've got kind of folks. We are really happy with all our mules. But Sven is definitely un-touchable. He's a keeper for sure. He and I will definitely grow old together.

But, if you ever make it out to the NW. US - come take a look at him.

I saw two fjord x haflingers for sale at an auction last year.
The sire was apparently the fjord.
One looked very similar to a fjord colouring wise, the other looked similar too a haflinger, but more of a dun bofy colouring with flaxen mane and tail.
They were quite nice, but didn't sell, as the sellers wanted a heck of alot of money for them. I'd definately go pure fjord or pure haflinger it was me. I'm such a sucker for investigating pure breeds and their bloodlines - love it!

I have never seen a successful Haffy X......NO, tell a lie, a Suffolk Punch X haffy was a very handsome easy going chap. Looked like and inflated Haffy!

Having looked at the crosses, personally I'd always go for pure Haff and pure Fjord any time.

I grew up in Scandinavia and one of my first ponies was an arab cross fjord, wonderful horse on the ground but mad as a hatter to ride, completely unstoppable and fast to boot.
I think the reason why crossess are frowned on is that as they are such a rare breed over here so why dilute them.

Hey there!

Sorry, I'm definately digging up an old topic for sure but I came across this while googling pictures of Fjord crosses (ohh the things I do with spare time!) and figured I'd add to this.

I'm located in Canada (sorry, haven't taken a look around this board, just wanted to reply to this first, so I don't know where the majority of people live) and own a rising 5 year old Norwegian Fjord x Thoroughbred gelding.
His name's Symbah, his showname is King Of The Jungle (hence the initials of my username). He's 15.3 hands high and a real sweety. He has the height and athleticism of the TB, but has the mind and sturdiness of the Fjord. He's a real looker for sure, but as calm as can be. Right now I show him 2'3 in the Hunters (not fox hunting), and school him over 2'6". He loves to jump, and since I trained him myself, I can honestly say he handles everything with an open mind and is very willing.

Here's a few pictures of us at a show! =]

I didn't breed him, but if you have any questions.. feel free to ask or PM me!

KOTJ, he worked out rather nice! Lovely horse!!

One of my first shares was a Fjord X Tarpan ... Very rare cross I'd think, and an utterly trustworthty & adorable gelding (called Cacahuete - peanut in French!) ...

Thanks guys! I do find he's a decent example of a Fjord cross =]
Thanks for the welcome, btw

Fjord x Tarpan? I think that would've been a neat cross!
I saw photos of a Fjord x Friesian once, looked absolutely gorgeous and had the 'grey dun' colour a pure Fjord would have. If only I had saved the photos!

Will dig through my old photos and see if I can scan something later .. He was a real doll! Retired to a trekking farm after a jumping injury, sadly. V willing!

They are all lovely but I have to say, not only do I want to steal HeeHaw's Sven, I think I just want to go and move in with him - thats what I call hacking!!!

I have just spent a frustrating 30 mins trying to post a picture...It is of me sitting on my fjord x hanovarian-Maple Huggy Bear, taken about 28 years ago:eek:

He came from the Maple stud where they had both these breeds. I will keep trying......

I agree, I loooooove the mule/fjord and the terrain:D

Hate to bring up bad news, but we lost Sven this year in the Three Island Crossing re-enactment of the crossing of the Snake River. It celebrates the main crossing of the Snake River along the Oregon Trail. The water was quite deep and fast and he just gave up on me. It was the biggest loss of any animal I've ever felt.

The good news is that good friends found us a team of Fjord mules in our area and we're working on getting them trained to drive this summer.

Here's a pic or two of them. They won't ever replace the relationship I had with Sven, but they are beautiful! We still can't tell which is which. They are full sisters - coming 2 and 3 years old.

We also keep a gallery of them at this link:
