Rubber Riding Boots

Hat them.
Had two long rubber boots and one short rubber (dislike them all :(), ** short boots was too thin on my feet I could feel stones walking over them, one long boots was too tight around claves and the second long boots, gave me blisters on my heels and uncomfortable to walk in. (I have short legs so that doesnt either)

So I wear short hiking boots like timberland but Im now looking for short riding boots and chaps.

Dont want to sound like a snob or whatever, but I would never ride in them!! Ever, under no circumstances would I ride in rubber. I am very picky about what gear my horses use and what gear I use on a day to day basis as I want it to be as near to what I ride in on show day as possible. To the extent that for every horse, I have at least 2 sets of gear, most cases more.

I agree, NZdressage, I went for jodphur boot's even though they were more expensive than rubber boots, I hate rubber. I plan to get Gaiter's some time, I won't be competing, for a long time, and I don't.

also NZdressage, you ride virtually every single day, I would want the best of the best in your position.

Well I ride in rubber boots.
They are actually gumboots, but they aren't big and loose, they are really snug fitting.
They are perfectly fine to ride in,just as long as I don't get water in them at the beach because that can be quite nasty.
But maybe its because I have never had the luxury of riding in leather boots so I have nothing to compare them against.

Yeah, thats exactly what I mean, I tried riding with different gear etc, but then I would go out and it felt different, it just wasnt right lol!! I have some long leather boots and short lace up boots with gaiters which I prefer. Plus I can never get rubber to fit right!! I tried riding in some rubbers this winter and it was weird lol.

They really make my ankles hurt. OK for an hour lesson, but I recently went on a two hour ride at a trekking centre and it completely ruined it for me because my ankles were hurting so much, I could barely move my feet. I didn't feel confident enough to canter along the beach because I wasn't able to keep my heels down well enough, and when we trotted it was agony. I had to walk most of it, which was a real shame as I had looked forward to it. I never had this problem before with jodhpur boots, so I'm going to get some on Tuesday! Don't bother with rubber long boots, they're too restrictive.

I personally prefer long boots. I find my rubber boots ok to ride in. I agree though that they make for sweaty feet, plus they can be a job to pull off after. Saying that, I've just bought long leather boots now so will be using those next lesson :)

Well i have long rubber boots and short boots and chaps so here goes!

Long boots ive had for years aigle rubber ones, and i have a good leg position in them and can feel my horse well, hells stay down easily although i do get the ocasianol "Heels down" remark every month or so! They used to be murder to take off, but i think my calfs have got skinner (if thats even possible) and i can now slip them on and off easily! + good for yard work!

I do love my boots and chaps though but i've lost my chaps..went on holiday (I ride in a place about an hour away from my house-and ive been going on hols there since i was about 3) shoved on my chaps and boots over my jeans on day 1 to help in a lesson- boots gave me blisterd as i had short socks on and then could wear them for the rest of the holidays! And i also left my chaps somewhere! (ok get to the point now!!) So ive been stuck in my rubber ones for about two months!

So until next saturday when i a) get money and b) can get to the tack shop im stuck in rubber boots. I miss them they are so much easier to ride in, can't really explain it, heels stay down efortlessly, i find jumping easier, i do agree that for XC rubber boots are easier as it takes longer for ankels to get painfull. Also easier to walk in.

I had rubber in the begginning. My parents got me the basics to make sure I was going to stick with it. That was in 7th grade, once I got to college my RI made me get leather boots, they were around $100, still have them, wore them for the first time again after about 10 years of not using them. Love them, so broken in, but starting to tear a bit, thin leather. But happy they lasted soooooo many years. One day maybe I'll bronze them!!

I've got Shires leather short boots and Shires amara chaps.

Was looking at a pair of Muck Boots - I think they were called Tyne. Does anyone else wear them, and what are they like? Do they keep your feet warm and what about the smelly feet problem?
(I didnt try them on...think I need to wear my joddys to see what the fit is like, plus getting them on and off...I could be a long time in the shop...)

I competed up to elementary dressage in my rubber boots with no problems. I had a pair of long leather boots years ago, hated them with a vengeance and sold them on. Nowadays I don't compete so ride in short boots and half chaps.
