The stupid hunt ....

Lets use some common sense, I think that evidence would be very hard to collect don't you?:p How do you prove a wild animal is in pain, when the pain and stress responses are so similar? How do you simulate hunting a fox and let it be killed by hounds when hunting is banned?
However there is evidence that mammals have the same resposes from the sympathetic nervous system in times of stress, and that the reaction to adrenaline is the same in humans as it is in other mammals.

Rhien unfortunately 99.9% of science is based on assumption. We can only try to prove beyond reasonable doubt, but how do you define fact? THe big bang theory is still a THEORY based upon assumptions.

something i have found on the net

[T]here is a hazy line of philosophical thought, deriving perhaps from some doctrines associated with the influential philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, Which maintains that we cannot meaningfully attribute states of consciousness to beings without language. This position seems to me very implausible. Language may be necessary for abstract thought, at some level anyway; but states like pain are more primitive, and have nothing to do with language. […]

''''''Human infants and young children are unable to use language. Are we to deny that a year-old child can suffer? If not, language cannot be crucial''''''

So to conclude: there are no good reasons, scientific or philosophical, for denying that animals feel pain. If we do not doubt that other humans feel pain we should not doubt that other animals do so too.

Animals can feel pain.

So am I right in assuming there isn't any scientific evidence to prove an animal doesn't feel pain when he's being savaged by a predator or pack of hounds?

Can someone give me a brief update on whats going on in this post as i really am not up for reading all 20 pages! Thankyou x

How on earth is that relevant to the discussion?

it is relvant to this discussion because farmers in Africa see the Elephants as vermin as they ruin their crops, People who fox hunt see foxes as vermin so must be hunted too.

So i was wondering if fox hunters would enjoy hunting down Elephants too or is our beutiful Fox inferior to a beutiful Elephant in a fox hunters eyes?

Why does putting an animal to death make so many people happy?

Good point kirby. :)

I don't know about evidence, but I belive there are no published journals specifically about pain in foxes being 'ripped apart'. However there are journals and 'evidence' that mammals and humans relase pain suppressing hormones in times of stress. If an animal is injured in a flight situation it is better if it doesn't have the pain to distract it until it has escaped, does that make sense, I know its badly worded.

Can I just make it clear that I'm not trying to say all foxes should be killed by hounds, I sit on the fence with regards to hunting, but I'm just trying to say tha actually with all the hormones pumping it is not such a horrific end for the fox as others are trying to make out.

Oh so its ok then, because of the adrenaline, lets all go out and kill our wildlife, it wont hurt them i promise!!!

Please read my previous posts where I state I AM NOT PRO OR ANTI HUNTING!!!!!!!!!!!! If you cannot construct an argument but resort to petty sarcastic comments how do you expect others to see your side of the discussion?

I would not want to be chased for miles, then to be possibly dug out of my home, and then bitten, shot or savaged,

i would just want to live my life and die a natural death

I take it people who do agree with hunting have never watch TARKA the OTTER!

or maybe they do for that thrill:mad:

I don't believe people who fox hunt see tem as vermin though, hence why I sit on the fence. I think people who hunt are similar to people who shoot, its about sport and tradition, not pest control, foxes are actually better off whilst there is a healthy hunting scene as sick foxes are killed before disease has a chance to spread.

Have you ever wathed the belstone fox?
I would rather be chased for miles with the possibility of escape than poisened like a rat and left to die a horribly slow and agonising death. Why aren't anti hunters all sticking up for the poor defensless rat is it because its not cute and cuddly like a fox?

Earlier on this thread someone said one of the reasons for hunting was pest control as they see them as vermin.

Ok another example for the pro's how about bull fighting? thats a sport and tradition, would people who fox hunt enjoy that too?

This is a very very very good point! I am another on the fence person, i see both sides. BUT i do not see how it can be deemed cruel to kill a fox yet not cruel to still have rat poison, slug killer, ant killer etc on the market and legal.
