The old NR - what a difference!!

PFB - I wish I had these boobs:( - ah well, since I've been outed its back to the fat, middle aged (flattish chested) reality for me then (it was fun while it lasted:)) - go on, tell me I was believable:D

I believe you :p

Anyway being flat chested in an advantage on a horse. Sitting trot is very uncomfortable (and amusing for bystanders) if you wear much more than a B cup :D:D

I have read a couple of threads in the last two days that have made me cringe. I would love to say what I really think but thats not the culture now. While that might make it a more comfortable place to be, I'm not sure if we are doing people any favours. Sometimes a few people disagreeing or telling you how it is helps, you look at things from a different view, or at least I do.

People voicing opinions and disagreeing has happened more I think since the forum has gone subscription and those opinions have been acknowledged without threads turning into a bitch-fest. We've lost most of the people who would accuse anyone disagreeing with them of being bullies or whatever and I think well meant advice is generally well received these days.

I've not noticed anyone complaining about receiving constructive criticism and I don't think people need to feel like they're walking on egg shells or that they have to be nice all the time, unless I've missed some sort of big bust-up.

All you can do is say what you think. But I don't think you can assume it won't be well received simply because the forum is more supportive these days. That's actually the kind of environment where a different opinion will be well received because there's no assumption of vindictive behaviour.

My son's girlfriend has double G boobs and the first thing both dogs and the horse did on meeting her was to stick their noses down her cleavage - don't know what they're hoping to find ...

Sorry completely OT!

I confess I went to the 'other side' when NR went subscription but I found it very 'clicky' as well as bitchy - think it's because there were a lot of youngsters much more 'with it' and facebooky than me so maybe I felt a bit intimidated. Anyway, I much prefer it over here!

Mmmm, interesting but the only time recently I have posted something approaching what I was thinking, it was not well received. And I worded it sympathetically. Good job I hadn't said what I really thought.

To be honest most of the post these days dont lend themselves to arguments, not like the old days :p shame :p

Maybe there's still a few people out there then who don't take it nicely  I thought we were past all that with the mass exodus having taken most of the overly antagonistic people with it, but it was obviously too much to hope for. Though if it's just the person the comments were aimed at not taking it well, then that's a bit different and it's just down to human nature - not everyone will agree - rather than deteriorating into the pages long slanging matches that used to go on.

I don't personally think there's any problem voicing an honest opinion on here, but I think it's also how you say it as much as what you say :) I think the main difference here now is the lack of snarking, hidden agendas or vendettas. I think that's quite refreshing personally :D

I think the forum has grown up alot since subscription, people will never always agree and lets face it forums would be pretty boring if we all thought the same! Sometimes when people voice their opinions they won't be well received, however, if people behave reasonably it doesn't descend into a slanging match as it would have done before.

It's more about people enjoying sharing a passion and a hobby now, there's always lots of advice to be had and everyone always gives helpful suggestions when asked

I remember somebody from the USA who had a link to their own website and they taught me the "emergency dismount"! I used it early on in one of my riding lessons!!! I will be forever grateful............

A few names I remember were, Baymare (very helpful), Mehitabel (really clued up), I'm sure there were more - some I'd rather not remember........(runs and hides now.......)

Nice to see all the old names ... whats an emergency dismount? I have a fear of bolting and would like to know an alternative to falling off!!!

xx

Emergency dismount is knowing you are going to fall, so sling your legs out of the stirrups and bail out rather than wait to fall.
On the way down, roll into a ball with your hands over your head and face for protection, it is easier to be prepared and make the fall happen rather than be thrown unexpectedly!

Does that make any sense?? x;)

I think it was Galadriel (if EML is right) who said that "you're looking for something like a strap or something to grab hold of a handle right"? "well, you have one, right in front of you - their neck"! Basically, I interpreted it to mean that (well, this is what I did on one of my early lessons) when I lost my balance (like you do!) instead of panicking and toppling off, I grabbed a hold of the riding school horses neck and sort of gracefully (feet were readily out of the stirrups) slid down the neck and landed on my feet no harm done!!!! Even my teacher contragulated me:p:D
Of course, it doesn't always happen like that.......

Yes, you lean forward holding the neck and dismount by swinging one leg over behind you, much as you might normally - but (since you may be dong this at speed and in an emergency) it is important to read the exact description given by Galadriel.

The rolling up bit is UK advice, I think. Because with the emergency dismount I think the idea is that you land on your feet. I did it once and the RI thought I had dismounted by choice!

We need another thread on this because advice on falling can have doubtful results.
Last time I fell, I did, for the first time, curl up and roll. I seemed fine when I got up - but the result was whip lash up the back of my neck which lasted much longer than the bruising in any of my untutored previous falls and put me off hacking.

I miss Galadriel too . . . she talked alot of sense. Are there trolls on here? Yes, a few . . . but nowhere near as many as on old NR. I, too, think some of the "teeth" have gone out of this forum . . . constructive criticism rather than bitchiness or pointless, provocative posts . . . but I suspect as it all settles down that element will come back.

Love NR.

Anyone fancy posting links to some of the more ahem... "interesting" threads from the past....

I do think people are quite brave on here with their riding problems etc, and the advice given is generally very good :) It would be nice though if sometimes they would give updates on how that advice has worked out for them.
